We hope everyone had a wonderful Earth Day yesterday 🌎🌱 One of the ways that we at Carrboro Family Vision endeavor to keep our Earth healthy is by participating in contact lens recycling! Billions of contact lenses and their packaging get thrown or flushed away every year in America alone. Together with Bausch and Lomb and Terracycle, we want to help you keep our planet a little cleaner 💙💚 All you have to do is save your contacts and blister packs, and drop by either of our offices to have us recycle them ♻️ One of our favorite sounds at the office is a year supply of contacts being dropped into our bin when someone comes back for their annual exam!

Hey Carrboro and Chapel Hill, we’re back highlighting the incredible women in our office ✨ This week we’re hearing from two of our Technicians, Jasmine and Michelle, who took time out of their busy schedule to speak to us about working in healthcare!

Jasmine thrives on connecting with her patients and cares deeply about patient outcomes. With 10 years of basketball history, not to mention a national championship under her belt, she is a team player with a zeal for patient care! When she’s not helping lead the team to victory, she’s family-oriented and can be found out on nature walks with her dog Zeus 🐶

With a passion for photography, Michelle has a special interest in making sure patients can see the beauty this world has to offer 🌸📸 When she’s not busy capturing photos outside of work or capturing your relevant health information for an examination, she’s busy taking care of her cat, Daisy, and can be found binging TV shows from new series to the classics.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, take a moment today to appreciate all of the marvelous women in your life 🩷

🌟 INTRODUCING DR. KIRCHMER 🌟

Joining the CFV doctor team in March 2023, Dr. Kirchmer grew up in Charlotte before studying Exercise and Sport Science at UNC Chapel Hill. She then pursued her doctorate degree with honors at the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Optometry 👁️🎓 After graduation she was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army Medical Service Corps. While stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, she was the recipient of many awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal upon her departure in 2023 🎖️

Dr. Kirchmer brings a disciplined and resourceful approach to the practice, with a determined and professional attitude— and was initially drawn to Optometry because of a family history of macular degeneration. She provides comprehensive care with special interest in ocular disease, treating medical emergencies, and specialty contact lenses. She enjoys managing conditions such as keratoconus, irregular corneas, and post-surgical ectasias, and strives to ensure everyone has a positive outlook on life!

Dr. Kirchmer channels her determination into her family, friends, and running 🏃🏻‍♀️ So much so that in her spare time, she admits she can often be found running while listening to podcasts about running (Ha!). With the Boston and Berlin marathons recently under her belt, Dr. Kirchmer doesn’t seem to be stopping her collection of medals any time soon!

Today was the day the sun disappeared 😱

Not really, but for a little bit we got to watch a historic astronomical event, a Total Solar Eclipse! We hope that everyone had a safe and fun viewing experience 🕶️☀️ Our staff and patients were able to step outside and some members of the community stopped by for a little viewing party! The next total eclipse seen by the contiguous US won’t be until 2044, so we are happy to have been part of this little piece of history ✨

Meet Josienne, one of the newest additions to our optical staff! Every time you see her, she’ll be sporting a new frame. Featured here is one of her favorites from La Font, the Juliette Frame in color 8031 🥰 This is a funky cat eye with bold yellow and blue, with a unique houndstooth ribbon. Get ready Carrboro and Chapel Hill, the historic total solar eclipse is coming soon! 🌞😎 While we won’t be in the path of totality, we’re still due for a great show at 80% totality 🌥️ The next total solar eclipse won’t happen for another 20 years, so you don’t want to miss it!

It’s important to remember eye health and safety during this time, as viewing the eclipse without the proper protection can cause instant retinal damage! Make sure you’ve got your eclipse glasses (not just polarized sunglasses), and if you experience any visual discomfort after the eclipse, don’t hesitate to give us a call! We hope you enjoy being a part of history 💫
