Our founder, Dylan Cade Bates, spent nearly a decade in law enforcement investigating child abuse, trafficking, and homicide. When her mental health forced her out, the system went silent. So she picked up the phone and built something from nothing.

Today, Badges & Breakthroughs is a nationwide community of first responders helping first responders — and the demand is crushing us.

Departments are on waiting lists for our training. First responders who finally reach out are being told to wait. The Thursday night peer support meetings keep growing because the need keeps growing.

📞☎️💻🖥️ The voices behind the headset deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated. 🚑🚒🚓🚨

This week, Dylan, Melanie, and Paige brought Ace to the Carroll County Dispatch Center for Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week 2026.

Ace was more than happy to provide some tail wags, belly rub opportunities, smiles, and a few much-needed moments of comfort for the incredible dispatchers who serve as lifelines for our community.

Dispatchers are the calm in the chaos. They answer the calls no one ever wants to make. They guide help to where it needs to go. They support first responders in the field while carrying the weight of what they hear, what they manage, and what they never forget. At Badges & Breakthroughs, this is exactly why we do what we do.

Ace is our fully trained therapy dog, and we currently have three more dogs in training as we grow our therapy dog and wellness support programs for first responders, dispatchers, veterans, agencies, and public safety families.

We are now taking requests from organizations that may benefit from therapy dog visits, peer support, wellness programming, training, or mental health support.
