An update for the week- I’ll be out of town and closed this Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th.

I will also be closed Monday the 22nd as it is a PD no school day. I’ll be back to regular schedule Tuesday the 23rd!

An Honest Update from Your Bookstore

This isn’t easy to share, but it feels important to be transparent with you—our community.

Since January, we haven’t once reached our monthly goal of selling 500 books. Month after month, we’ve fallen short. The Iowa Bookshop Tour this summer gave us a much-needed boost, and we’re so grateful to everyone who visited during that time. But outside of that season, business hasn’t been enough to sustain the shop.

Kenzie and I (Nichole) have both taken on extra jobs to keep this dream alive, but the truth is—we can’t do it alone forever. If things don’t change, we’ll soon face some very difficult decisions about the future of Books & Bakery, including the possibility of closing our doors.

If this shop matters to you, now is the time to step in. Come by and pick up a book. Tell a friend about us. Share our story. Every single purchase right now matters more than ever.

This bookstore has always been about more than shelves of books. It’s about community, connection, and a love of stories. With your support, we hope we can continue to be part of this town for years to come.

Just a few notes about November:
🍁 I’ll be closed Monday November 10th for school PD day, but will be open all other Mondays for the month.
🍁I will be closed and out of town November 20th and 21st. I will also be closed the 27th and 28th for Thanksgiving break. Because of this, there are limited Friday availabilities! Get in quick if you’re hoping to snag a Friday appointment.

A couple of other things I wanted to touch on:

🪾Thanks to everyone for being so patient and understanding as I navigated this first week of school, and doing drop off and pick up. Things have gone great so far, and I’ve had no issues getting to the school and back, and making it on time for everyone’s services. 🙂 My daughter has been joining me at work at the end of the day and has enjoyed seeing your friendly faces!

🪾I wanted to throw in a quick reminder about my cancellation and no-show policy. A cancellation with less than 24hrs notice will owe 50% of the service price, and a no-call/no-show will owe 100% of the service price. This has always been my policy. I’m very understanding that in life sometimes things just happen. I try to give as much grace as I can! It’s not fun to have to enforce this, but understand that this is my livelihood. If someone doesn’t show up, I don’t get paid. I can’t fill a slot, that, with notice, I could have filled!
