💚 We’ve noticed an increase in agencies not sharing that you have a choice in healthcare and that Greene County Health Department offers Home Health services in our community. We have proudly provided Home Health since 1969, and we hope to continue offering this service with professional staff right here in Greene County. Larger agencies are trying to push out smaller, local providers so they can take over the market. When that happens—just like the loss of local grocery stores—we risk being left without services, as larger agencies may decide it’s no longer feasible to maintain care due to travel, distance, staff time, and other costs. Supporting our local community services is essential.

🧡 We know many people would prefer to keep these services local. You have to be an advocate for yourself and your community. Please help by asking questions, sharing this information with family members who may use these services, and spreading the word through your church, friends, and neighbors.

💙 If you qualify for home health, make sure you ask for Greene County Health Department and don’t automatically allow partnered agencies to provide services in-house.

Higher temperatures reduce the time needed for mosquitoes to reproduce. Mosquitoes that spread West Nile virus can reproduce in as little as 7 days. Continue to protect yourself against mosquito-borne diseases by applying EPA-registered insect repellent and dumping out standing water around your home.

Not long ago, a man experiencing homelessness came to our agency searching for hope and a fresh start. Without stable housing or the documents needed to apply for assistance, he faced what felt like impossible barriers.

Our team worked with him step by step, beginning with the basics—helping him obtain his vital records so he could access the services he was entitled to. With these documents in hand, doors that had once been closed began to open.

Together, we guided him through the process of applying for unemployment benefits and housing. He had never been through this process before, so this process felt intimidating to him. Because of his persistence and the resources provided, he was able to secure both. We continue to work side by side, on his progress, setting goals for finding employment.

Today, he has a safe place to call home and the support of financial stability as he plans for his future. His story is a reminder that sometimes all it takes is the right connection at the right time to change the course of someone’s life.

Food poisoning not only sends 128,000 Americans to the hospital each year—it can also cause long-term health problems. You can help keep your family safe from food poisoning at home by following these four simple steps: clean, separate, cook and, chill.

What is the difference in good and bad cholesterol?

As a general rule, HDL is considered “good” cholesterol, while LDL is considered “bad.” This is because HDL carries cholesterol to your liver, where it can be removed from your bloodstream before it builds up in your arteries. LDL, on the other hand, takes cholesterol directly to your arteries, ultimately creating blockages that restrict the blood flow raising your risk of serious complications. Protecting Public Health and Property in Greene County

Mitigation projects and activities that can reduce injuries and fatalities while maintaining vital services for Greene County residents will be the main topic of discussion at the Greene County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee meeting at the Greene County Health Department, 310 5th Street in Carrollton, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3.

The Committee began work last year to update the County’s Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. This Plan details the past severe weather events that have impacted the County and identifies mitigation projects and activities that can be taken before a severe weather event occurs to protect residents, critical services, and infrastructure.

“Obtaining FEMA’s approval of our updated Plan will make all of the participants eligible to receive federal grant money for mitigation projects and activities,” explained Greene County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Coordinator, Cale Hoesman.

Projects identified by Committee members at this meeting will become part of the Greene County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. While the committee has provided input on portions of the Plan, the entire Plan will be presented for public review and comment before it is submitted to the state and federal government for approval.

“A public forum will be conducted later this fall for interested persons to review the Plan update and ask questions of Committee Members. A two-week public comment period will be held following the public forum to accommodate interested residents who are unable to attend. We want to make sure that anybody who is interested has an opportunity to review and comment on the draft Plan update,” added Hoesman.

Interested persons can submit questions and comments to the Committee members or directly to the Greene County ESDA Office.
