“If you or someone you love is struggling with a substance-use disorder, know that it doesn’t have to be the end of your story. It’s not shameful to struggle. You are not weak or broken or doomed to fail. There is hope, and it’s okay to be honest about what you’re going through.”

Adults with substance-use disorder are almost four times as likely to seriously consider su***de, three times more likely to make a su***de plan, and almost four times more likely to attempt su***de.
What causes this increased risk?
- Impaired judgment and impulsivity that come with the use of many substances
- Substances are considered a lethal means of su***de, and are more likely to be used in a moment of crisis if they are accessible, leading to fatal su***de.
- Substance-use disorder is often comorbid with other mental health conditions.
There is hope. Help is possible.
