As we observe Stress Awareness Month, it’s important to remember that stress impacts more than your thoughts — it affects your entire body. When you’re stressed, your body releases hormones that can raise blood pressure, blood sugar and heart rate. Over time, unmanaged stress can impact your sleep, your mood and even your immune system.

This month, make a promise to yourself: Take 10 minutes each day to unwind and recharge. Try one (or more) of these small but powerful stress
relievers:

💨 Deep breathing – Breathe slow, intentional breaths to calm your
nervous system.
🤸 Stretch or move – Loosen tense muscles and get your blood flowing.
🖊️ Journal or reflect – Clear your thoughts and find perspective.
🌳 Step outside – Spend a few minutes in nature to reset your whole mood.

Your mind and body are deeply connected — caring for one helps the other thrive. ❤️

Join a Tai Chi class to reduce stress, improve balance and find your calm.

Your A1C measures your average blood sugar level over the past three months. It’s an important number for understanding how well your body manages glucose.

An elevated A1C doesn’t necessarily mean you have diabetes — but it can be an early sign that your body is having trouble regulating blood sugar. The good news? With healthy choices, regular monitoring and support from your provider, you can take control. 💪

Here are some simple steps to support a healthy A1C:
🥗 Eat balanced meals. Focus on whole grains, lean proteins and plenty of fruits and vegetables.
🚴 Stay active. Go for a short walk after meals to help lower blood sugar.
😌 Chronic stress can raise blood sugar over time. Learn how to manage it in of our classes! 🩺 Know your numbers. Ask your provider what your A1C goal should be.

If you’re managing diabetes or prediabetes, join us for our Diabetes 101 or Nutrition for Diabetes webinars to learn practical ways to keep your blood sugar in a healthy range.

Your heart works hard for you — take time this month to return the favor. 💪

Congestive heart failure (CHF) often develops quietly.

You might notice:
💧 Swelling in your ankles, legs or feet
😮‍💨 Shortness of breath during activity or rest
⚡ Unusual fatigue or weakness

These early signs are your heart’s way of asking for help. The sooner you recognize them, the better your chances of managing symptoms and protecting your health.❤️

Listen to your body. Talk with your doctor. Prevention truly starts with awareness.

Did you know that cold weather can cause your blood vessels to tighten, making your blood pressure rise? 🩺

As temperatures drop, your heart must work harder to circulate blood and keep your body warm.

Here’s how to keep your blood pressure in check this winter:

🔥 Stay warm. Layer up and keep your home cozy.

🏃 Stay active. Try indoor workouts or light stretching to keep your circulation strong.

🥗 Eat smart. Choose heart-healthy meals with less salt, more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

🧘 Manage stress. Take time to rest, breathe and recharge — your heart will thank you.

If you’re managing hypertension or congestive heart failure (CHF), join us for Food as Medicine for Hypertension and CHF, a class designed to help you use nutrition to strengthen your heart.
