Think that Counseling is to Expensive? Think again
I’m thrifty when it comes to spending money on certain things. I will analyze cost-benefit before I decide to hire someone to fix a leaky faucet, paint my living room, or change the oil in my car, all which I know how to do myself. When it comes to being a caregiver, in many of these cases the emotional and relational needs of the caregiver can often go overlooked. Therapy can provide the tools to help you with these emotional strains.

In many of these cases (60%) of caregivers are providing upwards of 60 or more hours a week to taking care of the family member that needs their assistance. This is usually on top of working 30 to 40+ hours a week at a part-time or full-time job. Who will care for the caregiver? After experiencing trauma, many clients live in near-constant fear that it will happen again. It’s not only the brain that goes into a vigilant state of bracing for danger – it’s the body. This illustration explains how the four types of memory work with dealing with trauma.

to all the men that take care of their families and never give up.

Memory, like trauma, is complex explicit, implicit; conscious, unconscious. Sometimes it’s more elusive, like a trigger that trips the wire, leaving us collapsing into a fight, flight, or freeze response that we can’t entirely explain.
Whatever we do or don’t remember, and however the memories come to the surface, our story belongs to us. And that’s a power no trauma can take away from us.

Mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety, are real, common and treatable. And recovery is possible. Sometimes help is just a phone call away!

People have several different kinds of memory, including sensory, short-term, working and long-term. When individuals experience a traumatic event, whether physical or psychological, their memory can be affected in many different ways. For example, trauma might affect their memory for that event, memory of previous or subsequent events, or thoughts in general. The four different types of memory are explained here:

Various changes happen as people age, which make them more prone to depression than they may have been in their younger years. A main factor that can contribute to depression later in life is the struggle many people experience with changes in their identity, roles and social groups that come with advancing age. It is important to ensure you have someone you trust to speak to if depression hits later in life in order to learn how to ensure your happiness.

Depression in older adults is not a normal process of growing older. If you or someone you know is dealing with depression, these symptoms need to be addressed. If depression goes undiagnosed and untreated later in life, some adults may be reluctant to seek help when they really need it. If you or a loved one are feeling depressed, please call our office at 972-809-8272 for a FREE 15-minute consultation.

Late life depression can hit anyone whether you have suffered depression throughout your life or not. Please know that counseling can help. Call for your free 15-minute consultation. Sometimes just talking it out with someone is all you need.
