Su***de affects people of all ages, but older adults are especially vulnerable. According to the National Council on Aging, while adults over 65 make up just 12% of the U.S. population, they account for 18% of all suicides.

Factors such as grief, chronic illness, isolation, and loss of independence can increase risk — but knowing the warning signs can save lives. These may include:

- Loss of interest in usual activities
- Withdrawing from social interaction and self-care
- Talking about death or “not needing more appointments”
- Giving away belongings or putting affairs in order

Our Senior Life Solutions (SLS) program is here to support older adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, or emotional struggles. Through group therapy, education, and compassionate care, SLS helps older adults find hope and connection again.

The AD-Detect™ ABeta 42/40 and p-tau217 Evaluation (Plasma) test, newly available at Boyd this year, is a non-invasive blood test that helps identify early biomarkers linked to Alzheimer’s disease. This supports providers in making informed decisions about care and treatment planning.

After months of setbacks, surgeries, and a long hospital journey, Jolynn finally found the care and hope she needed in our Swing Bed program.

She said: “I absolutely love it here. Everybody is the sweetest people — the nurses, the CNAs, the housekeepers. I’m getting the wound care I need, and it’s starting to heal. They’re right on time with my dressing changes. I feel like I’m getting individual care here.”
