Think of teaching new skills like a New Year's resolution to get fit. Saying "1'I| lose 20 pounds" sounds great, but it won't happen without smaller steps. First you need to get to the gym once a week, then build up to twice a week, moving up to the right number for you, and then you need a routine for when you are there that aligns with your goals.
Big goals need small, manageable steps. The same goes for teaching your child. Break the goal down, build up slowly, and celebrate progress along the way.
