They need kindness, it’s a struggle for them, the family, its heart breaking. It’s the patience that they need, someone to show up for them, to understand it’s not their fault. Having grace and knowing it’s not really them. Continue education and understanding on dementia. It comes in so many forms, it shows up in other diseases.
Love them, they’re human too, they don’t mean to be this way. Help them even when it seems like they don’t want it, they do and they need it. 🩵

This hand-painted rock was gifted to one of our Red Cross volunteers by a child staying in one of our shelters.

His family had evacuated their home after the Burdoin Fire threatened their community in Washington.

Kat Thiede, a volunteer with the Red Cross Cascades Region, was supporting the family when she received this heartfelt gift.

"He held out this rock that they had painted to give to me, and my heart just melted,” Kat said. “It was the sweetest, kindest thing."

Whether it’s a rock, a hug, a thank-you note, or a $10 donation, your kindness fuels our mission and supports volunteers like Kat every single day. Thank you for being part of this important work. ❤️
