๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™ From preschool graduates to college graduates โ€” all at WNC.
For twins Peter and Chloe Woodbury, Western Nevada College has been part of their lives for more than a decade. Thirteen years after graduating from WNCโ€™s Child Development Center, they walked across the commencement stage once again on Monday โ€” this time earning associate degrees through the Jump Start program before even receiving their Carson High School diplomas.
Chloe graduated with an Associate of Arts degree, while Peter earned an Associate degree in Business. Both are headed to the University of Utah this fall with a significant head start on their futures.
Their inspiring full-circle journey highlights the power of early learning, dual enrollment and family support.

Congratulation to WNC graduate Calvin Worley of Minden!

As keynote speaker Stephen Jon Thompson reiterated in his message to graduates at Western Nevada Collegeโ€™s commencement ceremony on Monday, every graduate follows a different path and overcomes obstacles to achieve their milestone.

For Calvin, his path to an Associate of Science degree with pre-engineering emphasis was more difficult than others. He is battling back from a brain injury suffered in a near-fatal car crash in 2017.

โ€œThis is just the first step in a new career journey,โ€ he said.

WNC Disability Support Services Program Director Susan Trist said that Calvin has overcome multiple challenges in his recovery.

โ€œDespite experiencing a traumatic brain injury and facing the challenges of physical, occupational, and speech therapy, Calvin demonstrated remarkable determination in rebuilding independence and pursuing his educational goals,โ€ Trist said. โ€œThrough persistence, hard work, and resilience, he continued moving forward one step at a time. I am thrilled to celebrate the achievement of earning his Associate of Science degree and the dedication that made it possible.โ€

Worley plans to continue his journey in education by focusing on a civil engineering degree at the University of Nevada, Reno.

โ€œThereโ€™s more to come,โ€ he said. โ€œGod is good and he put me here for a reason.โ€

Way to go, Calvin, for completing your associate degree and creating your own path in higher education!

๐ŸŽ“ HISTORY MADE AT WNC ๐ŸŽ“
Western Nevada College celebrated its LARGEST graduating class EVER today โ€” 686 graduates strong! ๐Ÿ‘
Among them were an incredible 242 students from our Jump Start dual enrollment program, earning their associate degrees BEFORE even receiving their high school diplomas. Let that sink in. ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Today we celebrated determination, resilience, ambition, and the power of education to transform lives across Nevada.
We were honored to welcome Nevada System of Higher Education Regents Dr. Jeffrey Downs and Carol Del Carlo, along with keynote speaker Stephen Jon Thompson โ€” tech executive and author of Hotel Goodbyes โ€” who inspired graduates with a message about grit, determination and purpose.
Special thanks to WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe for leading a memorable celebration recognizing the hard work and achievements of the Class of 2026.
The future of Nevada walked across the stage this week โ€” and it looks incredibly bright. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

The final Star Party of spring semester at Jack C. Davis Observatory (JCDO) might be as unpredictable as the weather on Saturday night. With party cloudy conditions possibly affecting telescope viewing, attendees may have the opportunity to choose which presentation they'd prefer from JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring.
The options are "Moons Our Own and Others," "Potentially Hazardous Solar System Objects,"
"The Life of a Star (the space kind, not the Hollywood kind)," "Neutron Stars," and "Lasers: Function and History."
Dr. Herring said that he's also up to another round of "Stump the Professor," where attendees ask him a question that he could possibly not know the answer.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. As always, Star Parties are free to the public. JCDO is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave., on the northern end of WNCโ€™s Carson City campus.
