Jesse and I wanted to reach out to our Fite friends & families to express our heartfelt appreciation for all the love and support our family has received over the last week. We seldom post about our family so we realize that many of our Fite friends & families may not be aware of our families loss last week. Sadly last Tuesday, July 22 we lost my father-in-law Bill as he passed away peacefully at Fite. Phyllis (Jesse’s mother), Jesse and myself were present and surrounding Bill with love. While we are sad and our hearts feel like a piece has been taken, we could not be any more grateful for the love that was shown to us through Bill’s last two weeks. The love and care he received was one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives. More than that though, the love and care given to us as a family was more than we could ever have hoped or dreamed of. To be supported and loved on by our staff was a heavenly gift. It was also a humbling experience to have our staff pull us aside and remind us to take care of ourselves and not to lose ourselves in grief and caregiving beyond what is balanced at the bed side. Our staff made sure we were fed even when we couldn’t remember the last meal we ate. They encouraged us to sleep when we couldn’t remember when we slept last. But most importantly they reminded us that it was our time to stop being the owners and start being the family members. They reminded us to allow ourselves to feel the grief to sit in the quiet moments and to feel the love that is expressed in the final goodbyes. I know there are some that would love to say our experience is a perk to being the owners, I can assure you it is not. This kind of loving care is the beauty I see day in and day out with our staff, our care providers and the many nurses & aides that come in and out of the doors of Fite daily. Thank you for what you do for our residents and their families. You will never fully know how appreciated you are.
