Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home Welcome to Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home. We are a family owned and operated, full service funeral home, serving Southern Illinois since 1930.

Our facility was recently remodeled and updated in 2017/2018. The Riggin Funeral Home in Carterville, Illinois was established in 1930 by William Henry Riggin. His funeral home was first located on West Illinois Avenue in Carterville and was moved to its present location, 322 North Division, in 1935. Henry Riggin died in 1940 leaving the funeral home to his wife, Verna, and his two sons, Gordon an

d Geddes. In 1952, Gordon bought both his mother and brother's shares of the funeral home and became the sole owner of Riggin Funeral home. Gordon and his wife, Lucille, retired in 1976, selling the funeral home to Craig Pillatsch and his wife, Mary. The name changed, adding Pillatsch to the name to become Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home. After Mary's death, Craig married JoAnn Fields. Craig and JoAnn Pillatsch retired in 2003, selling the funeral home to Michael Ray "Junior" Burke and his wife, Lori. Michael Burke began his career at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in 1982 as an apprentice. He worked for Craig Pillatsch for over twenty-one years. Michael and Lori Burke have owned the funeral home since 2003 with the funeral home name changing again, by adding Burke as is now known as Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home.

Cemeteries hold generations of memories, history, and loved ones who helped shape our communities. Many of these cemeteries rely solely on donations and volunteer support to help with mowing, maintenance, repairs, and upkeep. Every contribution, big or small, helps preserve these sacred places for future generations.

Thank you to all who work tirelessly to care for these beautiful resting places. ❤️

SHARING THIS FROM A FRIEND. IF YOU HAVE FAMILY BURIED AT BLAIRSVILLE CEMETERY, PLEASE CONSIDER SHARING THIS:
(Sharing From, Jim Mary Manis): Our son Jason died 14 1/2 years ago and was buried in the Blairsville Cemetery. That year and every year after, we make an annual donation on Memorial Day weekend. When we made our donation Saturday, former Mayor Steve Gottschalk indicated that the cemetery fund is nearly depleted due to the need to replace a tractor engine.

Steve has contacted the State of Illinois about the state cemetery fund and discovered that Chicago cemeteries had taken ALL available funding. Steve further indicated that if the Blairsville Cemetery Association is no longer able to support the cemetery, that the State of Illinois takes it over and then turns it over to the village to care for.

If you are in any way connected to the Blairsville Cemetery, please consider making a donation. These donations will allow the cemetery to continue in operation.

Donations can be made in person this weekend at the cemetery or can be mailed to:

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this holiday weekend, may we also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and give thanks to those who gave everything for our freedom. 🇺🇸
