From one GHS graduate to the next — 30 years later.

This week, Dr. Brian Reed, a surgeon with Highpoint Health, returned to his alma mater of Gallatin High School to speak to the 2026 grads at the Academic Honors Banquet. This is place that felt familiar because he'd been there before. Same stage. Same moment. Same anticipation of what comes next in life.

He shared that as a student, he didn’t always feel like he belonged—but it was in the halls and on the stage of GHS that he found his voice. And in that spirit, he left students with three powerful reminders he'd retrospectively share with his 18-year-old self:

✨ See the world beyond what you know.
There’s a big, beautiful world waiting. It's filled with different people, perspectives, and experiences. Lean into curiosity. Growth lives outside your comfort zone.

💬 Failure isn’t the end. It's part of the journey.
That inner voice pushing you to succeed can also hold you back. When things don’t go as planned, give yourself grace and listen to the voice that reminds you: you’re still enough.

🤝 Pay it forward.
None of us gets where we are alone. Lift others up, share what you’ve learned, and create opportunities for those coming behind you. That’s where real impact lives.
