Everyone has heard of a free little library, but do you know what a blessing box is? They're small, community-supported outdoor pantries, often resembling a wooden cabinet, placed in accessible areas to provide free, non-perishable food, hygiene products and essential items. Operating on an anonymous "take what you need, leave what you can" basis, these boxes offer non-judgmental, immediate assistance to those experiencing hardship.

This week, our caregivers assembled meal kits to be included in blessing boxes in Joplin, Neosho and Carthage! ❤️

As always, we encourage everyone to do what they can to take care of themselves and others.

Flu A and other viruses have caused a surge in illness among businesses and hospitals, with prevention being the best approach to avoid the spread.

Service has always been at the heart of Mercy’s mission, and all this week caregivers have spent time in the community putting that mission into action. The service is inspired by Sister Roch Rocklage, whose lifelong commitment to compassion continues to shape the way Mercy shows up for others.

Sister Roch taught that service isn’t defined by the size of the act but by the sincerity behind it. She believed that every gesture of kindness has the power to bring light into someone’s life.

When Bryce’s parents brought him to Mercy with a hard abdomen, they never imagined hearing “Burkitt lymphoma.” But surgery, chemo and extremely long stays at the hospital didn't keep Bryce on the bench for long.

Thanks to a loving family and an entire team of nurses bringing encouragement and comfort in the form of surprises and treats, Bryce rang the bell, beat cancer and is now thankful that baseball season is starting up again!

As comes to a close, we’re honored to recognize Black leaders from the states we serve. Their courage and leadership inspire people everywhere who stand up for justice and equality.

Missouri’s history includes powerful leaders in civil rights and labor advocacy. Frankie Muse Freeman, a St. Louis civil rights attorney, led the case that ended racial discrimination in St. Louis public housing and became the first Black woman appointed to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. St. Louis labor organizer Ora Lee Malone helped unionize Black women garment workers and became the first Black international representative of her union, bridging labor and civil rights movements.

Arkansas is home to influential figures whose impact still shapes education and scientific progress. Samuel P. Massie, a pioneering chemist and the first Black professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, contributed vital research toward treatments for diseases such as malaria and meningitis. Charlotte Andrews Stephens, the first Black teacher in the Little Rock School District, devoted more than 70 years to public education, and her legacy lives on through the school that bears her name.

Oklahoma’s Black history makers include courageous voices in journalism and education. William Henry Twine, publisher of the Muskogee Cimeter, used his newspaper to challenge racial violence in the early 20th century. Ira DeVoyd Hall, an educator and entrepreneur, became the first public school superintendent of the all‑Black town of Clearview before founding a real estate company focused on expanding Black homeownership.

Kansas has been shaped by storytellers and advocates committed to representation and justice. Lucile H. Bluford, a journalist and civil rights champion, spent decades at the Kansas City Call fighting for school desegregation and increased political representation. Fort Scott native Gordon Parks became the first Black photojournalist at LIFE magazine before evolving into a renowned filmmaker and author, using his art to document Black life and expose racial injustice.

We are grateful to everyone who upholds equality and dignity for all, and we honor them today and every day.

Congratulations to our entire Mercy Sports Medicine team for being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this past weekend!

The sports medicine program started more than 30 years ago as a way to support student athletes, and today we care for athletes at all levels whether they’re in high school, college or play professionally, including the St. Louis Cardinals.

It’s an honor to care for athletes of all ages and to be included in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame’s class of 2026.

Last November, we celebrated a new 3D mammography machine at . This week, we have even more good news: The American College of Radiology has officially granted us a three-year accreditation! 🎉
