An announcement and love letter to our community:
Back in 2017, I began to dream of something big. Being only in my last year of my 20s and also a relatively new mom, I started small. Two years of dreaming later, I opened Horizons Marriage & Family Therapy in late 2019, now a mom of 3 who still had big dreams. My dream looked like no longer compromising on who I wanted to work with and how, and serving the LGBTQIA+ community exclusively in the therapeutic space, and in a state that desperately needed people with my experience. At the time, the name I chose for the practice seemed apt, as I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist by trade. As time went on, my dreams got bigger and the mission became clearer, and I was called to support other therapists in also becoming champions of q***r liberation doing critical and life-saving work here in the South. I channeled bravery and took the leap to turn Horizons into a group, no longer just on my own. I couldn’t have known this at the time, but these decisions and chasing my dreams would be such a life-changing and soul-feeding part of my life. I pinch myself every day how blessed I am to work with the coolest q***r folks I know, and work with the most inspiring and incredible LGBTQIA+ patients every day. It is a dream come true, even on the hard days.
Through the years since, Horizons has evolved so much that it’s clear we have outgrown our name. Although I believe we are truly excellent at providing relational and family therapy, and will continue to do so indefinitely, this really didn’t capture the incredible work we also do and have been doing with individuals in this community as well, and supporting the gender and liberation journey for so many incredible trans* folks. We have become a truly incredible multi-discplinary team of therapists who serve the LGBTQIA+ community in many facets of our mental health and in many areas.
After much deliberation, I’m ready to introduce you to our new name, and I’ll hope you’ll celebrate the beginning of this new chapter with us.
