Welcome our newest Certified Nurse Midwife, Madison! Madison is originally from Clermont, a small town in Central Florida. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University in 2018 and began her career at AdventHealth Orlando. There, she gained experience in high-risk obstetrics before transitioning to labor and delivery—where she discovered her passion for women’s health and midwifery.

Her bedside experience spans labor and delivery, high-risk antepartum/postpartum care, and the obstetric emergency department. These experiences inspired her to pursue advanced practice nursing, and she went on to earn her Master of Science in Midwifery from the University of Cincinnati.

Madison relocated to Durham in August 2024 and joined the TP4W team in June 2025. She is honored to support patients through every stage of life and is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care.

Outside of work, Madison enjoys exploring the Triangle with her husband, reading, being creative, spending time outdoors, and is currently learning to play both golf and tennis.

Don’t let your meds ruin your summer. Let’s talk heat, hydration & staying safe.

Did you know some medications can contribute to heat sensitivity?

🧠 Mental Health Meds
These can mess with how your body controls temperature:
– Antipsychotics (Risperidone, Olanzapine)
– Tricyclics (Amitriptyline)
– SSRIs/SNRIs (Zoloft, Effexor)

❤️ Heart + BP Meds
They can dehydrate you or dull your body’s heat response:
– Beta Blockers (Metoprolol)
– Diuretics (HCTZ, Lasix)
– Calcium Channel Blockers (Amlodipine)

🚨 Warning Signs of Heat Sensitivity
– No sweat but still hot?
– Dizzy, flushed, or confused?
– Sudden sunburns?
Your body’s not coping—cool down ASAP!

💡 Summer Survival Tips
– Hydrate more than usual
– Stay out of peak sun (10am–4pm)
– Wear UPF clothing + SPF 50
– Ask your provider about med risks.

And if you’re pregnant, be aware of your water intake. Pregnant people need approximately 80-100oz of water per day.

Recognizing Black Maternal Health Week.

Black mothers deserve to feel safe, seen, and heard — before, during, and after pregnancy. Yet the reality is heartbreaking:

Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women in the U.S. These aren’t just statistics — they are sisters, daughters, partners, friends, and mothers.

It isn’t about biology — it’s about bias, unequal care, and systemic injustice.

We will continue to stand with Black mothers and families — every single day.
Because every person deserves a safe birth, and every family deserves their loved one home.
