Strong bones + healthy joints = unstoppable YOU! Here’s how you can stay strong, active, and limber in your 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond:

1️⃣ Do weight-bearing exercises like hiking or stair climbing to keep your bones strong.
2️⃣ Fuel your body with foods rich in calcium, vitamin D, and omega-3s to nourish your bones and fight joint inflammation.
3️⃣ Maintain a healthy weight to protect your weight-bearing joints, such as your hips, knees, and ankles, from stress.
4️⃣ Stay active daily. Even light movement can stimulate your bone-forming cells to build more bone tissue and improve joint flexibility.

Dealing with persistent joint pain or need guidance on improving your musculoskeletal health? Partner with one of our bone and joint experts here at Cary Orthopaedics. Call (919) 573-4825.

Knee pain throwing off your rhythm? When you visit one of our orthopedic specialists, help us help you by showing up with “STAR” power:

S – Spot it: Pinpoint the location of the pain.
T – Track the timeline: Tell us how long it has been going on and what started it.
A – Assess it: Give us an idea about how bad it is. (Use the pain scale 0-10.)
R – Reveal it: Describe what it feels like (i.e., Does it throb, burn, or ache?) and what makes it better or worse.

Don’t forget to mention any accompanying symptoms, such as swelling, stiffness, weakness, numbness, or if the pain is sporadic or constant. Remember, the more details you share, the more capable we are of providing the care you need to get back on your feet.

And here we are again with our Q&A series – serving up straight-to-the-point insights from our physicians here at Cary Orthopaedics.

Q: Why does my hip click or snap when I walk or twist—and why does my groin hurt after workouts?
A: You may have what’s known as snapping hip syndrome (SHS). It happens when a tendon or muscle glides over a bony ridge in the hip. SHS is common in dancers and athletes—but it can affect anyone. While it’s often harmless, it’s worth getting checked if there’s persistent pain involved.

Did you know your spine starts aging long before you do? Thirty percent of people under 35 already have some degree of disc degeneration, and many of them don’t even realize it. By age 60, more than 90% of people will show evidence of disc degeneration.

Whether you’re approaching midlife or well into your golden years, don’t ignore lingering or persistent back pain, especially if it’s radiating or accompanied by numbness or paresthesia (tingling). Left untreated, degenerative disc disease can lead to debilitating pain and other problems that can affect your mobility and quality of life.

National Rehabilitation Awareness Week is in full swing, and there’s no better time to shine a spotlight on something many patients overlook: prehab.

🎯 Research shows that patients who undergo prehab physical therapy recover faster and are less likely to develop complications. So, if you want the best possible outcome, prehab is non-negotiable.

If you are scheduled for surgery and you want to bounce back faster, stronger, and better, team up with one of our physical therapists here at Cary Orthopaedics. We have extensive experience helping patients prepare for their procedures and getting them into the best shape possible. We will be there throughout your journey—before and after surgery—to help you get back to doing what you love as quickly and safely as possible.

Happy Wipe-Out-the-Myth Wednesday! Let’s squash a common misconception surrounding tennis elbow.

❌ Tennis elbow affects tennis players only.
✅ Despite the name, tennis elbow doesn’t just affect people who play tennis. Anyone whose sport or occupation involves movements that put repetitive strain on their elbow, like typing, using tools, and lifting, can be susceptible to lateral epicondylitis (aka tennis elbow). In fact, most people who develop the condition have never picked up a racket.

Think you might have tennis elbow? Check in with one of our elbow experts here at Cary Orthopaedics. Call (919) 573-4825 now for an appointment.

Happy Tell-the-Truth Tuesday! Today, we’re going to debunk a common misconception surrounding bone fractures:

❌ If you can move it, it’s not broken.
✅ You can still move a fractured bone, especially if it’s just a hairline fracture. Pain, swelling, and bruising are more reliable signs than mobility. However, there’s no substitute for visiting an orthopedic specialist, who can properly diagnose the injury and provide appropriate treatment to ensure proper healing.

To see one of our fracture experts here at Cary Orthopaedics, call (919) 573-4825 now for an appointment.

✅ Boosts cardiovascular efficiency
✅ Builds muscle strength
✅ Sculpts and conditions your entire body
