We’re back open! Contact us to book your appointment.

Our “new normal” looks a little different as your health is our top priority. We are taking the following strict precautions:

-all patients and providers are wearing masks
-all patients and providers receive temperature checks upon entering the clinic
-all patients and providers wash hands before treatment begins
-there is now extended time between patient appointments to allow for thorough cleaning throughout the day

If you’d like more details on our new procedures, please feel free to contact us!

Wishing you all a safe, healthy and happy Memorial Day weekend and remembering with gratitude our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

We see folks with headaches and neck pain that don't remember how or when it started. This video shows the response of the cranium when impacted by a partly water filled soccer ball ⚽️(probably 5 # or so). This is such a light force compared to the impact of a car's airbag, a kicked, thrown or batted ball, or a fall on a hard floor or on the pavement. Our skull is designed to absorb and transmit forces. When we have an efficient system we see the translation and return to original position as seen in the video.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=On1CsbTwlDs

When we don't have an efficient system, then the bones shift and get stuck. This results in increased tension in the Dural-Menegial system.

That's the membrane that is covering the brain and spinal cord, and is lining of the inside of the skull. đź’€
This tension results in decreased range of motion of the neck and often in headaches.
We can help restore this position and mobility by working directly on the cranial bones and working with mobility of the Dural system!
So, come see us if you ever took a blow to the head and have unexplained of lingering headaches or neck pain!

Post surgical scarring or adhesions are common dysfunctions we find with many of our patients who have had abdominal surgeries. Sometimes we see this quite quickly after surgery, (6 weeks - 6 months) and sometimes these adhesions are not identified until many years later when the patient arrives to PT with a remote complaint. We often find abdominal adhesions to be the cause of hip pain, low back pain, decreased respiratory effort or ability in athletes, poor Thoracic (mid back) mobility and poor sitting or standing posture. We find these restrictions with our SIBO and IBS and constipation patients, as well as those struggling with fertility, continence or pelvic organ pain. I have seen several patients recently who all had a primary complaint of severe neck pain or degeneration that is rooted in an old abdominal surgery that changed their posture.
This article is very meaty and discusses predisposing factors at a cellular level, but also gives a nice list of more familiar factors that would make a person more at risk of developing adherences. So, here's that more digestible list!
Factors shown to directly increase risk :
genetic polymorphisms
estrogen exposure
endometriosis
Or indirectly:
diabetes mellitus
metabolic syndrome
hyperglycemia
obesity
depression
binge alcohol consumption
anti-Parkinsonian medications
oral hormone therapy
pregnancy
cancer
WOW, those are pretty common things we see in many of our patients who come for orthopedic complaints as well as those more complex patients.

Tracy spent the weekend in Albuquerque, NM at a Visceral Manipulation 5 class learning all kinds of great connections in the body, linking the emotional and the physical. It's quite amazing how the body stores stress and trauma!
