The 10-Minute Rule
When motivation is low or something feels overwhelming, commit to just 10 minutes.

Set a timer and start the task without pressure to finish. Often, getting started is the hardest part. Once you begin, momentum tends to follow.

And if you stop after 10 minutes, that still counts. You showed up. Progress doesn’t have to be all or nothing to matter.

It’s easy to get lost in our routines. The rush to work, getting groceries, chauffeuring kids to their respective activities, squeezing in time to read a book or dedicate some cuddle time with your pet. There are so many things to do, so many competing demands pulling us in different directions, it can feel like an impossible task to slow down or make any time for yourself. It’s common for us to experience guilt or doubt when we think about taking a break, hell it may not even be a question on your mind.

Therapy doesn’t remove life’s challenges, but it changes how you experience them. With more empathy, more realistic expectations, and less anxiety and worry, things that once felt overwhelming can start to feel manageable. It’s about building a steadier way of moving through life.

Name the Need Practice
Sometimes what feels like overwhelm is actually an unmet need trying to get your attention.

Pause and ask yourself:
What do I need right now?
Is it rest, reassurance, space, clarity, connection, or support?

Then take one small step toward meeting that need. You don’t have to solve everything. Just moving in the direction of your need can shift how stuck you feel.

Your brain was never designed to be “on” all the time.

Between constant notifications, screens, and the pressure to stay focused in busy environments, your attention system gets overworked fast. That mental fatigue you feel at the end of the day isn’t just from doing too much—it’s from your brain never getting a real break.

Nature works differently.

It gently holds your attention instead of demanding it. The movement of leaves, the rhythm of water, the openness of a park—these don’t drain your focus, they restore it. Your brain gets to shift out of effort and into ease.

And the impact is real. People consistently show better memory, clearer thinking, and improved focus after spending time in nature—even something as simple as a short walk or looking at natural scenery.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do… is step outside.

Growth in therapy often shows up in everyday moments. Learning to see problems from a wider lens and using positive coping strategies gives kids the ability to handle stress with more confidence. Over time, those small shifts build resilience and help them navigate challenges in a healthier, more balanced way.

Many people have felt the immediate sense of relief that comes from stepping away from a screen and into a natural environment. While it feels like a simple shift in mood, there is a fascinating biological reason why nature helps the body find its balance.
