Living with an autoimmune condition can feel like a full-time job—one that drains your body and your spirit. The pain, fatigue, and uncertainty don’t just wear on your physical health; they take a toll on your confidence, your relationships, and your sense of self. It’s easy to feel isolated or powerless when your body stops doing what you need it to do. But here’s the truth: you are not alone. You are not invisible. And you are not without support. Therapy can offer space to process grief, navigate fear, and reconnect with your strength. You deserve care for your whole self—body, mind, and everything in between.

Just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true.

A thought record—a classic tool in cognitive behavioral therapy—helps you take a step back from automatic thoughts and check the facts.

Here’s how it works:
1. What happened? A triggering event or moment.
2. What was the thought? The story your mind told.
3. How did you feel? Emotion and intensity (1–10).
4. What’s the evidence for and against that thought?
5. Is there another, more balanced way to view this?

This tool helps you go from reacting to responding. It doesn’t erase the emotion—it just helps you make room for a more grounded version of the truth.

Survival is not your only option.
You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to be soft. You are allowed to set boundaries that make space for healing.
Ask yourself not just how to keep going, but how to feel whole. Rest isn’t weakness—it’s how we reclaim ourselves, one quiet moment at a time.

When life feels heavy, it helps to have a plan.

A Coping Skills Toolbox is just what it sounds like: a collection of strategies that help you stay grounded, safe, and soothed during emotional storms.

Your toolbox might include:
– Deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation
– Journaling or coloring
– Calling a friend or walking outside
– Music that lifts you up or calms you down
– A grounding object you can hold

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach—only what works for you. The goal isn’t to avoid hard feelings but to meet them with tools that remind you: you’ve handled hard things before. You can again.

Emotional exhaustion isn’t always visible—but for many BIPOC individuals, it’s a constant companion. Passed down through generations, shaped by cultural roles and unspoken expectations, this tiredness isn’t just physical. It’s mental, spiritual, and systemic. In this powerful reflection, Sharmaine Joyner calls for a new narrative—one where rest isn’t earned, it’s honored. Where healing starts with saying “no,” making room for softness, and choosing recovery over resilience. Because you are allowed to pause. You are allowed to feel. And you don’t have to hold it all to be strong.

Ever find yourself stuck in a negative thought loop?
Thoughts like:
– “I’ll never get this right.”
– “They didn’t text back, so they must be mad.”
– “If it’s not perfect, it’s worthless.”

These are cognitive distortions—common thinking traps that sneak into our self-talk and skew how we see ourselves, others, and the world.

The good news? You can learn to spot these distortions and challenge them.

Start by asking:
– Is this thought 100% true?
– Is there another way to look at this?
– What would I say to a friend who thought this?

Our brains are powerful storytellers. Let’s make sure we’re not stuck in fiction.

Vulnerability might feel risky—especially when you’ve been taught to guard your emotions at all costs. But what if that one honest moment… that one journal entry, deep breath, or counseling session… became the turning point?

You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. You just have to start.
Because vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s power. And it could change everything.
