Not every feeling you have is relative to what's happening right now, sometimes it's old stuff coming up to the surface. Old, unprocessed feelings or a sense that something happening now may be a threat to your safety or wellbeing. And sometimes our feelings are actually other people's feelings we are carrying a sense of responsibility for (usually as a protective mechanism we learned in the past).
Asking yourself this question before taking a deep dive into your feelings can help disrupt emotional patterns that feel overwhelming, uncomfortable, scary af, or like it's difficult to function in the wake (read: tsunami) of emotions...
It gives you an opportunity to trust yourself, reassure your nervous system of safety, and set down things you don't need to carry right now.

Just a quick update that I'm having some tech (and life) issues that have impaired my ability to post reels/videos, and pretty much everything else too while I continue to follow up on the support ticket to get things back up and running.
Meanwhile, I'll be over here screaming into the abyss and preparing stuff to share with you about the online Nervous System Support Circles I'm hosting starting Nov 5th at 7pm EST.
These NS Support Circles will be recurring, open to both members AND non-members of my Self-Healing Support Community, and will help you support your nervous system regularly so you feel more connected to yourself and your body, more relaxed and centered, and better equipped [by growing your capacity to handle and recover from stress] to get through the day, get through the upcoming holidays, and continue to take an active role against fascism.
Regular NS Support will also help you gain more understanding of the [SUPER IMPORTANT] role your nervous system plays in every.single.part of your human experience from health, sleep, anxiety, decisions, behaviors, ability to make things happen for yourself, and more and what you can do about it - THE VERY THING YOUR NS NEEDS MOST!
I should also mention that these NS Support Circles are free to attend, with an option to tip. While tips are welcome, they are not required, because I believe everyone deserves regulation and coregulation support for their nervous system.

Time for a quick check-in with yourself: what are you feeling right now or today?
I used to struggle to even know how I felt. I knew I was usually anxious and the most commonly identified emotion I had was anger or frustration but that's because those were the two 'safest' emotions for me to feel, not because I wasn't feel ALL THE THINGS.
I learned new ways to deal with feelings that puts me more in control of my emotions than ever before, and you can too. The state of your nervous system plays an important role, as does how you respond to your emotions.
You learned how to respond to them through past experiences and what was modeled for you growing up...but is it working for you? The answer is NO if you experience intense emotions, being on edge, symptoms, issues, stress/overwhelm, or being in survival mode ON REPEAT.
It starts with noticing how you feel and 'naming your feelings'. I learned that this new response took some of the power away from my feelings and gave it back to me. The next step after naming them is supporting your nervous system to feel calmer until I got through the feeling and sensations associated with the feelings.
Naming feelings seems fairly simple, right? Well, my nervous system was so dysregulated that even that was close to impossible. I literally could not clarify what I was feeling, it was too overwhelming. I had to start small with naming my feelings with things like "I feel feelings", "I feel too many feelings to name", "I feel like my chest might burst", "I feel sh*tty", and whatever I was able to describe in the moment.
The image of the 'List of emotions I actually feel' can be a legit start to naming your emotions. I know they're kinda funny, but humor is my favorite form of self-care!

A quick question for you to ask yourself:
Do you hold your breath when you're stressed, tense, or anxious?
This is how your body let's you know it's in fight, flight, or freeze.
If you notice this is a thing you do, a repetitive pattern in response to stress, you can use that information (biofeedback from your body) to choose a new response that can help you recover so you can restore comfort, relaxation, and get out of the stress/survival state of fight, flight, or freeze.
