Did you know one of the earliest detailed descriptions of what we’d now call peripheral neuropathy came from the ancient physician Sushruta in India, who described nerve problems from conditions like leprosy and certain toxins over 2,000 years ago. Much later, in the 1800s, Dr. de Calvi gave one of the first full medical descriptions of diabetic neuropathy, linking high blood sugar to progressive nerve damage.
