My Endometriosis Story
At 40, I never expected my fertility journey to lead to a colonoscopy, suspected cancer, and major surgery — all a month before my wedding. I’m sharing this because if it helps even one woman get diagnosed with endometriosis earlier, it’s worth it.

The Diagnosis Scare
For years I had GI issues, bladder pain, and painful periods, but doctors brushed it off as “anxiety.” My fertility clinic also knew but told me to “wait and see.” Trusting them cost me part of my colon.
When I pushed for a colonoscopy, I woke up to devastating news: suspected stage 2–3 colon cancer, stage 4 endometriosis, and possible Lynch Syndrome (a genetic cancer risk). Doctors even discussed removing my entire colon — maybe even a hysterectomy.

Wedding Week Chaos
The weeks leading up to my wedding were filled with genetic testing, fertility shots, endless appointments, and the looming possibility of losing my colon and uterus. The timing was so chaotic that I had egg retrieval surgery the day before the wedding.
By the time I walked down the aisle, I was exhausted, in pain, and had no pelvic floor strength to dance — but I was still deeply grateful to celebrate with my loved ones.

The Surgery
What was supposed to be a 4-hour procedure turned into 8. The outcome? No cancer 🙌 but stage 4 endometriosis had spread through my colon, bladder, ovaries, and uterus. I needed a partial colon removal, but I was able to keep my uterus and still have the chance to carry children.
Recovery was brutal — days with a catheter, no food for nearly a week, intense pain meds, and humbling moments where I needed help with even the basics. My husband was my rock, caring for me through it all, and I’ll forever be grateful for him.
