So often, we go through our days completely distracted and inattentive to the sensations and feelings of our bodies. A body scan is an opportunity to check in with your body and pay close attention to any messages that it’s trying to send you while encouraging the release of excess tension.

Basically, you’ll lay down and bring your attention to one end of your body (your head or your feet) and slowly move and refocus that attention up or down and along the whole of your body.

Going for a walk in nature is an easy way to get the benefits of movement while helping your body produce vitamin D from the sun. Significant shifts in weather throughout the year can leave many of us sad or depressed. Seasonal affective disorder is more common in the winter due to shorter days, less sun, and more isolation. Emotional support is a vital aspect of self-care that should be prioritized, especially at times of the year when mental well-being is the most affected.

Practice healthy coping mechanisms, such as mindfulness, with a loved one or partner. Mindfulness helps you to focus on being aware of everything around you. Being mindful makes you feel more connected and grounded, allowing you to be more aware of your emotions.

Your mind is just as vital as your body. Emotional self-care will help you feel your best from the inside out.
