This is worth the read! I can personally attest to the benefits of yoga and meditation, particularly with regards to chronic pain. I’ve had Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) for 24 years and have practiced yoga for 13. How I wish I had known this information from the get go! But once I discovered the healing benefits of yoga, I felt less like a prisoner held captive by the RA and more like the captain steering my RA ship. I wish the same relief and healing for anyone struggling with chronic pain. THIS has always been my “why” when it comes to teaching yoga.

Healing and curing are inherently different, explains Dr. Marske.

"Curing means eliminating disease, while healing refers to becoming more whole," Dr. Marske says. "With chronic pain, healing involves learning to live with a level of pain this is manageable. For this, yoga and meditation can be very beneficial."

A recent study supports previous findings that yoga and meditation can benefit patients with chronic pain and depression. A program including yoga and meditation lead to a significant improvement in participant perceptions of pain, mood and functional capacity, according to a study in the Journal of...

This year your Thanksgiving might be different, for whatever reason. It’s okay. Gratitude comes from the heart and we can feel and practice gratitude no matter where we’ve been, where we are, or who we’re with. This year maybe we can deepen our focus on gratitude and that will enable us to realize that we have even more to be grateful for than we realized “before”. Maybe we can even find gratitude in what what we don’t have, in where we aren’t, and in what didn’t work out. Then we’re able to be grateful for that awareness, for those lessons, and for the experience - that is life. May the depth of your gratitude astound you this year, on this Thanksgiving Day and each and every other day as well.

"By drawing our senses of perception inward, we are able to experience the control, silence, and quietness of the mind." ~B.K.S. Iyengar

I am sharing from YogaU Online, one of my favorite sources of blogs, articles, and information. . .

“Looking at media images, it's easy to think that yoga is all about getting the body into challenging, athletic, and next-to-impossible postures.
But as B.K.S. Iyengar so wisely notes above, in reality, yoga is about what happens inside - the deep settling of mind, body and emotions that occurs as we draw the senses of perception inward.”

This resonates deeply with me and with what yoga means to me as well. It’s why I wanted to teach yoga in the first place, to help others realize this also so that they too can reap the many benefits of yoga - on every level. Yes, there is a physical aspect to yoga, but that is the path NOT the destination. When we focus on the destination versus the path, we miss out on so much of the stuff that is at the very heart of how yoga transforms us.

Be what you are, feel what you feel. Hold space for yourself in those moments where you’re unsure, angry, sad or confused. Remember, you have the ability to choose where to focus your attention so choose wisely. Focus on what you want or need more of or what you’re grateful for versus what you’re afraid of, angry about, or confused over. YOU get to decide for YOU. ❤️🙏🏻❤️✌🏼❤️
