This month’s Take Root Blog by clinician Banks Clark explores perfectionism and ACT:
There is a common assumption in mental health, and in our culture more broadly, that if we can understand ourselves well enough, think differently enough, or become disciplined enough, we will naturally begin living differently. And yet, in both my own life and clinical work, this assumption often falls short. Even with abundant intelligence, insight, and genuine self-awareness, some patterns in our lives can feel remarkably resilient and fixed in place despite our best efforts to understand them. We enjoyed a morning of creativity, coffee, and connection with our interns and associates community last Friday! We swapped business cards and decorated a pouch to keep them in with fabric markers and fun iron-on patches. Thank you to everyone who attended! It was truly a memorable morning and uplifting way to head into the weekend ☕️ ✨🍩🌱

We were honored to be a platinum sponsor for The Alliances Rally for Recovery last weekend. In a culture where it feels increasingly that intentional shrinking of one’s body is back in style, and every other ad is for a product encouraging weight loss, it can feel a little harder to muster the words “Not one more.” Because we know that statistically, pursuing weight loss increases the risk of eating disorders. This weekend was a reminder that we can and should, proudly, continue to shout “Not one more” as hope for more appropriate and attuned treatment to be offered to all of those with eating disorders, so that not one more life is lost and so that fewer and fewer precious moments of life are destroyed. It is deeply powerful to be in community with those who are on this journey of recovery. I am honored to be one of you, and Take Root is proud to support you. Many, Many thanks to McCall and Southern Smash and to the amazing organizing committee for creating this opportunity to celebrate recovery together.
