Are you noticing more hair loss than usual?

Don’t be alarmed, during different stages in your life, hair growth and loss will naturally change. Some of the factors that contribute to this include low blood count, stress, hormonal shifts and pregnancy. Many women experience hair loss due to hormonal shifts postpartum, but this typically goes back to normal within 6-12 months after having your baby.

Talk to your doctor if you are concerned about your hair loss. Call or text our office at 480-895-9555 to schedule your appointment with us at New Horizons Women’s Care.💕

OBGYN vs Midwife: What’s the difference?

OBGYNs and midwives have similar education specialties, but there are some differences between the two practices. While one practice isn’t better than the other, it’s important to understand the differences in how they approach caring for expectant mothers and babies.

🩷OBGYN🩷
-Highly trained medical professional
-Cesarean rate of 32% in the U.S.
-Surgeon
-Attends hospital deliveries
-Treats high and low risk pregnancies

🩷Midwife🩷
-Highly trained medical professional
-Cesarean rate of 5% in the U.S.
-Not surgeons
-Attends hospital, birth center and home deliveries
-Treats low risk pregnancies (with over 90% of pregnancies falling into this category)

At New Horizons Women’s Care, we offer a team-based and collaborative approach, combining both midwifery and OBGYN care for a personalized women’s health experience for each of our patients.

Choosing a method of contraception is a very individualized and personal decision for women.

Many women choose an IUD as they are long lasting, reversible contraceptives that are among a handful of set it and forget it methods. IUD’s boast the lowest failure rates of all forms of contraceptives which makes them a popular choice. IUDs can remain inserted and effective for up to 10 years with both hormonal and non-hormonal options.

If you’re unsure about which method would best suit you or if you want to switch from your current contraception method, give our office a call at 480-895-9555 today!

Did you know that not all types of incontinence are the same?

Let’s talk about Urge Incontinence vs. Stress Incontinence!

Here are the two most common types:

1. Urge Incontinence

What it is: A sudden, intense urge to urinate that you can't control, often leading to leakage before you can get to the bathroom.
Common triggers: Cold weather, hearing water running, or even just thinking about the bathroom.
Key symptoms: Frequent bathroom visits and the feeling of urgency

2. Stress Incontinence

What it is: Leakage that occurs when pressure is on the bladder ex: sneezing, laughing or exercising
Common triggers: physical activities, coughing, lifting heavy objects
Key symptoms: Leaking triggered by physical stress rather than urge

If you’re struggling with either form of incontinence, it’s important to talk to your women’s health provider! NHWC has a team of compassionate providers at 5 locations for you to choose from. Call or text us at 480-895-9555 to schedule an appointment 💗

Ultrasounds are an essential part of obstetric care! They allow for your OBGYN to check in on the baby, see the baby’s growth and development, and determine how the pregnancy is going. They also determine if additional testing is needed for a full picture of both you and your baby’s health during pregnancy.

If you are less than 14 weeks pregnant a vaginal ultrasound will help us get the best information. Women greater than 14 weeks will have an ultrasound through the abdomen. At 18-20 weeks another ultrasound is done to more thoroughly evaluate your pregnancy. This ultrasound will confirm you due date, locate the placenta, measure the fluid in the uterus and survey the baby. Most of the time the sonographer can determine the s*x of the baby at this visit.

If you’re currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant, we are here to help you through your pregnancy journey. Call 480-895-9555 to schedule your appointment with us at New Horizons Women’s Care!
