Have you had your mammogram done yet this year?
Screening for breast cancer is done by mammography, with the goal being to catch cancer at an early stage where it is most treatable. A mammogram is a series of x-rays taken of the breast in order to see if there are any abnormal signs or patterns that might be cancerous. These indicators usually show up on the mammogram before a lump can be felt in the breast. If something unusual shows on the mammogram, your doctor will order more tests to be done which may include another mammogram, biopsy, or ultrasound.
Studies have shown that women who have regular mammograms have up to a 25% less chance of dying of breast cancer than women who do not have regular mammograms.
