Now, I'm not a person who needs a title to define my worth, and I also agree that the Doctorate in Nursing Practice does not equate to a Medical Doctorate (MD).
But, I think this is important to share... Because all other doctoral degree programs that involve research and professional practice allow for the use of the term "Dr." as representation of the work put into the degree.
And let's not forget about the Doctors of Chiropractic medicine (DC) who are also allowed to refer to themselves as "Drs." despite the lack of national accreditation and acceptance by insurance-based coverage (no offense to my DC friends, just pointing out the facts. Also, the insurance companies are the root of all healthcare evil... don't get me going on that topic).
Nurses, we must once again ask ourselves, "Are we being targeted?"
A federal judge tossed a suit by California nurses who wanted to call themselves doctors, ruling the usage is misleading to patients.
