Wishing GLOBAL Ambassador Marcus Sikora a happy 34th birthday!

When it comes to describing the Nebraska native, many people tend to use the word creative. The descriptor aligns perfectly with Marcus’ talents and ambitions as an actor, singer, storyteller and self-advocate. In 2015 he released his first animated short and children’s book "Black Day: The Monster Rock Band" to wildly positive reviews.

“I’ve always liked to make stories,” Marcus said. “One day, I had an idea for a Halloween band, and then I imagined a boy who wants to be in the band. The idea started out as Black Day: The Musical, and then my mom and I made it into a book. It’s a children’s book, but grown-ups like it, too.”

January is Thyroid Awareness Month!

This month is used to bring awareness and increase education about thyroid-related diseases.

It is estimated that between 2-7% of children with Down syndrome have hypothyroidism, and as many as 39-61% of adults with Down syndrome will develop thyroid disease. Because it is more likely for individuals with Down syndrome to deal with thyroid-related issues, it is important to be educated about the topic.

For the remainder of this month, we challenge you (no matter where you are in your journey!) to celebrate Thyroid Awareness Month with us by learning more about this prominent topic in the world. 💙💛

Did you know that the NDSAN educates genetic counseling about the work that we do?!

In our mission to ensuring that every child with Down syndrome grows up in a loving home, we do work in the community to help educate medical students and staff. We share what the adoption process looks like, what the NDSAN does, and what families who we work with experience.
