IUDs, pills, shots, and other forms of contraceptives do NOT cause abortions. They allow people to have control and bodily autonomy + they prevent the spread of illnesses and diseases.

Abortifacient: A non specific word that can encompass a myriad of substances, herbs, prescription and non-prescription medication that induces abortion. Some Examples- Mifepristone with Misoprostol, some plants, and some medications have abortifacient properties

Contraceptives: A device, a behavior, a medication, or a procedure to prevent pregnancy from occurring. Some Examples- IUD, condoms, Birth Control Pills, Plan B, contraceptive Patch, contraceptive shots

Today, we remember Dr. George Tiller.

May 31, 2025 is the 16th anniversary of his assassination. Dr. Tiller was murdered for his unwavering commitment to providing abortion care to people who desperately needed it. Despite years of attacks, threats, and legal actions by anti-abortion extremists, he stood firm in unapologetically providing his patients with life-saving medical care. His patients came from across the country and the world to receive compassionate care.

His memory is a blessing and a continuing inspiration for everyone who cares about bodily autonomy and abortion access. He was my boss and mentor. It was in his honor and to continue his work that I founded Trust Women. We returned abortion services to Wichita in 2013. He is also the inspiration of our work today. His dedication to providing care that few others were able or willing to provide, despite constant opposition, reminds us of the importance of doing what we can every day to fight back against the forces that would take away access to abortion in this country.

Beyond remembering Dr. Tiller's legacy, we want to honor the memory of a man who cared deeply for his family, friends, colleagues, community, and country.
