Your physical health has a profound impact on your mental health. As we observe Su***de Awareness Month this September, it is important to prioritize your mental health before and after surgery. As surgeons, we understand the toll surgery takes on your mental well-being, as it is a major life event. Whether it is a simple operation or a more invasive procedure, surgery requires a great deal of preparation and can take anywhere from days to months of recovery.

Here's how you can prioritize and improve your mental health before and after surgery: https://bit.ly/3B2DvG1

Think you may have a hernia? Knowing the signs can help you take action sooner and get a hernia repaired. Each type of hernia can present its own set of problems and can be bothersome and often painful. While hernias are not usually life-threatening, they can develop complications. Signs for hernias include:

• Visible bulge on the abdomen, especially with coughing or straining.
• Pain, pressure, or pulling sensation at the hernia site.

At Wyoming Surgical Associates, our team of general surgeons is highly experienced in minimally invasive surgeries, which reduces your hospital stay while ensuring a successful outcome from your procedure. A common misconception is that after a surgery, you'll spend quite a bit of time in the hospital. While your hospital stay largely depends on your procedure and recovery, many procedures can be completed in a single day, potentially allowing you to return home on the same day.

Surgery is not a one-size-fits-all practice. Our team provides individualized care to patients, ensuring that your procedure addresses your specific needs. Learn more about what we do at https://bit.ly/3Hkit97

Both emergency and elective surgeries involve procedures to address a medical issue, but they differ significantly in timing and urgency.

This summer, we encourage you to take precautions to avoid injury that requires emergency surgery; however, accidents happen, and our skilled surgeons are here to provide the best care possible.

Surgery in the summer is not fun for anyone, but accidents happen, health concerns arise, and we can't put off important medical procedures based on the season. We often see a rise in emergency surgeries as the weather gets warmer and people are out boating, biking, 4-wheeling, and engaging in summer activities that might lead to more accidents.

This summer, stay safe and know our surgeons are at your side when an emergency (or elective) surgery is needed.

Our advice: never have surgery from a doctor you haven't met yet. Meeting and knowing your surgeon before a procedure is key to ensuring you feel comfortable and confident in the care you'll be receiving. Meeting your surgeon before scheduling your procedure allows you to ask questions, address concerns, and make informed decisions about your health.

Dr. Beckstead answers more questions and clears up misconceptions about surgery for patients in his full interview. Watch now at https://bit.ly/4koARvv
