Job Title: Registered Nurse
Job Overview: Plays a critical role in supporting patients with cardiovascular conditions. The R.N. assists in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients' heart-related conditions while collaborating with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals.
Reports directly to the Nursing Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care and Assessment:
• Conduct thorough assessments of patients' cardiovascular health, including history-taking and physical examinations.
• Monitor vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels, and report any significant changes to the cardiologist.
• Perform and assist with diagnostic tests such as ECGs (electrocardiograms), stress tests, and Holter monitoring. Assist with IVs as needed.
2. Treatment and Procedure Support:
• Assist in cardiac procedures and interventions as directed by the cardiologist.
• Administer medications as directed by the cardiologist.
3. Patient Education:
• Educate patients and their families about heart disease, treatment plans, medications, lifestyle changes, and preventive care.
• Provide counseling on heart-healthy behaviors, including diet, exercise, and stress management.
• Educate patients on how to monitor their conditions, recognize symptoms, and understand their medications.
4. Care Coordination:
• Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare providers regarding patient care.
• Coordinate follow-up appointments and referrals to specialists if needed.
• Reviewing test and lab results with the clinical team and relaying the results to the patient along with updates to the treatment plan.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate electronic patient records, documenting assessments, procedures, treatments, and patient progress.
• Ensure all medical records are in compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
• Report any changes in the patient's condition to the healthcare team promptly.
6. Emergency Care:
• Provide immediate assistance in emergencies, including cardiac arrest, arrhythmias, or myocardial infarction.
• Administer CPR and other emergency procedures when necessary.
• Ensure timely and efficient response during emergencies, working in collaboration with the cardiology team.
Qualifications:
• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (RN).
• Licensure: Active, Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required; other certifications related to cardiology preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience in cardiology, intensive care, or related fields is highly preferred. Minimum of one-year previous experience in med-surg.
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of ECG morphology and interpretation.
• Strong clinical skills.
• Excellent communication skills to educate and support patients.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-pressure
situations.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Must be able to lift and carry equipment, and assist patients with mobility. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions occasionally. This clinic contains stairs which we use to move about the building.
Work Environment:
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
