Update on Wyoming state childhood vaccines: Below is a summary of the decisions by Wyoming Dept of Health regarding childhood vaccines:
1) All vaccines previously, and now currently, on the schedule will continue to be covered by Medicaid, the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program, and Wyoming's WyVIP program. It is anticipated that private insurance will continue to cover all vaccines as well.
2) Vaccine requirements for daycare and school attendance in Wyoming remain unchanged.
3) It is anticipated that all vaccines currently in the schedule will continue to be available.
4) Current vaccine recommendations are now stratified into 3 groups: 1) Recommended; 2) Recommended for "high risk" patients/familes; and 3) "Recommended after 'shared clinical decision-making."
5) At Casper Children's Center, we have always endorsed "shared clinical decision making." Therefore, for our patients, THE ONLY SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE in the Schedule relates to HPV -- human papilloma virus vaccine (the "cancer" shot). Currently, it's indicated at age 9 with 2 doses, separated by at least 6 mos. The NEW recommendation is ONE DOSE between ages 11 - 12.
6) The other change is with Hepatitis B. Currently, there are 4 doses in the schedule, with the 1st one given at birth. Wyoming has always ONLY REQUIRED 3 DOSES, and these are typically received at the 2, 4, and 6 mos visits. THE BIRTH HEP B HAS BEEN REMOVED.
We will continue to stay abreast of changes, modifications, etc. and share them as warranted.
