Wellness Wednesday: The Soothing Power of a Scenic Drive! 🍂🚗

As autumn settles in, there's something truly special about taking a leisurely drive. For many, a quiet ride can be incredibly calming and uplifting – offering a change of scenery, a moment of reflection, and a gentle connection with the world outside.

Especially for our senior population, a short, pleasant drive can:

Boost Mood: The simple joy of seeing new sights and beautiful landscapes can brighten spirits and reduce feelings of isolation.

Provide Gentle Stimulation: Observing the changing world through a window offers mild cognitive engagement without being overwhelming.

Create Cherished Memories: A drive with a loved one or a dedicated caregiver can be a wonderful shared experience.

Here in Michigan, we're so lucky to witness some of the most spectacular fall foliage! We've included a graphic here that highlights the peak times for leaf color changes across our beautiful state. Imagine the breathtaking views!

Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese

Ingredients:

12 oz elbow macaroni

2 cups butternut squash, cubed

1 cup milk

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

2 tbsp butter

½ tsp paprika

Salt & pepper to taste

½ cup breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

Instructions:

Boil squash until tender, then puree with milk until smooth.

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain.

In a saucepan, melt butter. Stir in squash puree, cheese, paprika, salt & pepper until creamy.

Toss sauce with pasta.

Optional: Transfer to baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs, bake at 375°F for 15 minutes.

Menu Monday – Easy Turkey Chili

🌶️ Full of flavor, low in fat!

Ingredients:

1 lb ground turkey

1 onion, diced

1 can kidney beans

1 can black beans

1 can diced tomatoes

1 cup corn

2 tbsp chili powder

1 tsp cumin

Salt & pepper

Directions:

Cook turkey and onion in a pot until browned.

Add beans, tomatoes, corn, and spices.

Simmer 25–30 minutes.

Great for meal prep or freezing!

Menu Monday - Baked Salmon with Veggies

🐟 Simple, nutritious, and delicious!

Ingredients:

2 salmon fillets

1 zucchini, sliced

1 bell pepper, sliced

1 lemon

2 tbsp olive oil

Salt, pepper, dill

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Place salmon and veggies on a lined baking sheet.

Drizzle with olive oil, squeeze lemon juice, season.

Bake 15–20 minutes until salmon flakes easily.

A heart-healthy dinner in under 30 minutes! 💙
