1. Your body isn’t fragile. A herniated disc, knee pain, shoulder pain, etc is not a death sentence and it’s doesn’t mean that you can’t do activities that you enjoy. Prioritize form, but don’t be afraid to do the things that bring you joy. I promise, your body is more resilient than you think.
2. Perfect posture isn’t everything. Honestly, if you sat with perfect posture 8hrs per day, your back would still hurt… because your body craves movement. Your posture for a few minutes doesn’t really matter, it’s more like the position that you’re in for extended periods of time. It’s okay to slouch, as long as it’s not for long. Go ahead and cross your legs for a few minutes, and then switch sides. Because your body wants balance. (And don’t forget to stand up and walk throughout the day… or look up!)
3. Getting older doesn’t mean you have to hurt. Yes, we all age. And with aging, comes decreased hydration in our joints. But just like the posture topic, your body craves movement. The more you move around, the less chances you give yourself to get stiff. The lack of movement is what hurts the body, not the age of the body.
And if you are over the age of 50, continue to get on and off the ground so that you don’t lose that movement into your 70s+.
If your chiropractor is telling you otherwise, it’s time to go to one who will be honest with you (and encourage you to move!)
