1. Will the shelter allow me to foster? Unless you are an approved foster who has completed the county's foster training class, the answer is sadly no.
2. Does the shelter require I come into the shelter to adopt? Yes, although due to Covid the shelter is currently closed and adoptions or “meet and greets” are by appointment only. If you are out of state and can find a 501(c)3 rescue who is an adoption partner of the Los Angeles County shelter system (DACC) they will be able to pull the pet for you.
3. Does the Castaic Shelter ship animals? No, the shelter doesn’t have the budget or manpower to ship animals.
4. Is the Castaic Shelter a "no kill" shelter? The shelter is far from a "no kill" shelter. The staff does not want to euthanize any animals - but unfortunately the shelter's intakes far exceed the adoptions. Castaic Shelter is not a rescue so please be aware that if you surrender an animal it may not get adopted.
5. Can you help and if so how? If you are local you can sign up for the volunteer training program, but volunteer training is currently on hold due to Covid. You can always help us by networking and sharing our animals. If you wish to donate to our charitable arm, the "Dreams Come True" charity which provides outside medical help to pets at the Castaic Animal Care Center, you can do so by sending a tax deductible check to the shelter. No donation is too small! This page promotes the adoption and rescue of pets from the Castaic Shelter. All dogs and cats who are included in this album are at the Castaic Shelter and urgently in need of adoption or rescue.

Meet Rose-blooming with love🌹
Rose is an adorable 5 year old border collie mix who adores people! Was playful with children in her previous home. She was turned in for going after the small dog in the home so she needs a home with no small dogs. Will probably do best as the only dog in the family. This wiggle butt is waiting to shower you with love and affection!

Meet Finn #5762993, a handsome 2 year old shiba Inu mix! Came in as an owner surrender because they could not afford him and he did not get along with their other dog. The shelter is recommending that he will do best as an only dog. Seems to have a happy disposition! A clever boy who likes to catch treats in the air! Volunteer and Staff favorite!
Verona is just a puppy at 10 months old! Has already been returned twice to the shelter and needs a family who will not give up on her. This sweet girl is a great medium size at only 46 lbs! She loves other dogs and is a helper dog in play groups. Can be shy at first with people but once she warms up transforms into a total love bug! Penny & Roxy
had a loving family for several years, then the owners lost their home. Now their life has changed completely, and finding the shelter overwhelming.

I 🩷 Shyla! She is a must meet! Shyla is smallish and the eternal PuPpY! Shyla, , is only a year old and 48 pounds. She has beginning obedience and leash skills. Her family couldn’t keep her but they said she is playful with dogs and kids. They said she loves to play ball and they weren’t wrong. Shyla is a must meet and will be available for adoption once she is spayed.

castaic.and.scv.animals My new shelter crush 2 sweet and gentle out in the yard Leia is social with other dogs and has a gentle/dainty play style. Previous owners stated she started to show aggression to the 3 year old daughter in the home.

Teddy is as lovable as you would expect a teddy bear to be. Teddy, , is listed as a 2 year old, 84 pound Teddy Bear or...uh...a mastiff mix. He came in as a stray. He seems to have beginning obedience skills with a slight pull on leash. Teddy is playful with medium energy. Teddy needs to an only dog. Come meet this adorable boy!
