1. Will the shelter allow me to foster? Unless you are an approved foster who has completed the county's foster training class, the answer is sadly no.
2. Does the shelter require I come into the shelte

r to adopt? Yes, although due to Covid the shelter is currently closed and adoptions or “meet and greets” are by appointment only. If you are out of state and can find a 501(c)3 rescue who is an adoption partner of the Los Angeles County shelter system (DACC) they will be able to pull the pet for you.
3. Does the Castaic Shelter ship animals? No, the shelter doesn’t have the budget or manpower to ship animals.
4. Is the Castaic Shelter a "no kill" shelter? The shelter is far from a "no kill" shelter. The staff does not want to euthanize any animals - but unfortunately the shelter's intakes far exceed the adoptions. Castaic Shelter is not a rescue so please be aware that if you surrender an animal it may not get adopted.
5. Can you help and if so how? If you are local you can sign up for the volunteer training program, but volunteer training is currently on hold due to Covid. You can always help us by networking and sharing our animals. If you wish to donate to our charitable arm, the "Dreams Come True" charity which provides outside medical help to pets at the Castaic Animal Care Center, you can do so by sending a tax deductible check to the shelter. No donation is too small! This page promotes the adoption and rescue of pets from the Castaic Shelter. All dogs and cats who are included in this album are at the Castaic Shelter and urgently in need of adoption or rescue.

Disney Dog! Brownie is available pending spay which means you can do a pre-adopt. Brownie is adorable! She seems to have beginning obedience and leash skills. Brownie is playful and friendly and will be adopted quickly. Brownie, is listed as a 1 year old, 45 pound Standard Poodle.

We’re just getting to know Harvey , but it appears this pocket Pittie is a great catch! He’s 1 year old, 40 lbs, he had a blast playing with other dogs in playgroup, he’s soft cuddly and loving with people. And what an adorable face—with one ear up & one down. Harvey is a gem!

‼️ RESCUE ONLY! ‼️ Last Dance, Last Chance Nala! Nala is URGENT! She is RESCUE ONLY! Her crime? Her love for chickens and livestock! Nala would thrive in an urban environment without temptation. She would love a large yard with a pool! She loves water play, zoomies and catch! Nala is affectionate, playful and silly!! According to her owner Nala is good with dogs, kids and even cats. Please save her! Nala is a 2 year old, 61 pound PuPpY! Her owner said she was Husky/Jindo but she seems Shepherdish! Only DNA will tell. Please come rescue Nala! No Livestock. No Poultry. Castaic currently has 3 dogs who are Rescue Only due to their love for poultry and livestock. Aggression or Instinct? Let’s get them rescued and in an environment where they will succeed and thrive. ❤️The Critter Fair is coming up this Saturday at William S.
Hart Park in Santa Clarita, featuring interactive exhibits, live animal encounters, and hands-on activities for all ages. The event, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m on May 16, will include the Cool Critters Show from the Mobile Zoo of Southern California and exhibits from Placerita Canyon Nature Center.
Some people think it's a great opportunity to adopt a pet, as adoption fees will be waived for Los Angeles County shelter pets. Dogs, cats, reptiles, and more will be available for adoption. Organizations like Golden Years Dog Sanctuary will be there with dogs like Claudia a sweet Rottweiler-Doberman mix, and Fortune, a dog-loving companion who needs a home 1 3 4.
The event will also feature:
• Local vendors and food trucks
• Library Express
• SCV Water resources
• Barnyard animals
Visitors can meet adoptable pets, participate in crafts and games, and enjoy the festivities. The event is family-friendly and suitable for all ages 1?❤️

Verona is just a puppy at 10 months old! She’s adored by all, and a typical affectionate fun-loving puppy!

This sweet girl is a great size at only 46 lbs! She loves other dogs and is a helper dog in play groups. Can be shy at first with people but once she warms up she’s a total love bug.

As we know puppies take some patience and training, and Verona is ready and eager to keep learning, she wants to be her best self.

She needs the consistency of a family who will not give up on her. In return she promises a lifetime of love.

Gentlest giant Ranger has had a tough past. And yet he’s still such a happy trusting boy! A recent transfer from Lancaster, Ranger is great with other dogs (a playgroup helper dog with a friendly dainty play style!) and we’ve been told “he loves everyone, he’s the whole package!” We’re finding that to be true too! He has a fun goofy side, is happy to hang by your side, and sure loved getting belly rubs. He may jump a bit when excited and would thrive with continued training, but he is eager to please, ready to learn, and minds well.
Ranger , is only a year and a half old, and has been let down by humans enough. Dumped as a young puppy, picked up, and then later found scared, wandering the dessert. He’s listed as a Doberman/Black Tan Hound mix (or possibly some Pyrenees, a DNA test to be sure).
He’ll do best with a large dog lover, someone who understands him, and most importantly someone who will stand by him. Can you help us find that person?

INTRODUCING! Cub, , is a 7 year old, 75 pound Husky who came in as a stray. He is struggling at the shelter getting in and out of the kennel. Cub came in as stray with skin wounds which will need follow up with your private vet. Cub is friendly, playful and calm. He has not yet been tested with other dogs. If you are looking for a mellow-fellow, Cub could be your guy!
