Hello IABA Family!
My name is Elise and I am a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) at the Glenview location.
A bit about myself: I have multiple years of experience working with children and adolescents with eating disorders at the residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient levels of care. At this time, I was conducting group therapy sessions and providing meal support. I have worked with people of all different backgrounds, eating disorder diagnoses, and comorbidities. While working with this population, I had a tendency to gravitate more towards the children that had an ASD diagnosis as well. I was able to suggest evidence based interventions to their direct treatment teams and further support them in ways that were crucial to their recovery. Though I have collaborated with people with ASD in various settings, I wanted to take the time and intentionally use more evidence-based interventions, provide direct support, and collaborate closely with families to further create meaningful and impactful change in their lives. Which led to becoming an RBT at IABA!
Given my background in working with eating disorders, we thought it would be a good idea to offer a generalized parent course surrounding how to support the loved one(s) in your life with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We will go over topics such as what eating might be like, how to support their eating habits, and how to introduce a wider variety of foods for those who may be a bit pickier than others.
Please note, the course will go forward with the participation of five families but is open to 15. Class dates and times will be released when we reach the minimal enrollment. I look forward to sharing knowledge with you soon!
