By the age of 10, about 5% of children will have experienced a migraine headache, but they can be harder to identify in kids than adults. Migraines often affect only one side of the brain in adults, but children usually experience pain equally on both sides. Also, auras are less common in children. Auras may include sensitivity to touch, light, or sound, visual disturbances, fatigue, and/or nausea and often precede migraines. Additionally, pain often resolves more quickly in children and triggers are harder to identify. If you suspect your child may be experiencing migraines, a visit to their chiropractor is a good idea. Helping your child manage stress and get enough sleep, food, and water may prevent them. And if you are looking for ways to treat your child’s migraines without the potential side effects of drugs, try chiropractic care.
