This is an example of both physical and mental deprivation. Physical deprivation is the act of restricting a specific food or total amount of intake. Many side effects include: thinking about the food, craving that specific food, and eating a large amount of that food when you finally “give in.”
————————————————————————————Mental deprivation is the mentality or mindset towards the food... this might be the belief of a specific food being “bad” or “unhealthy” and telling yourself you cannot have it.
Both of these will result in guilt after eating that particular food and most likely bingeing or overeating it DUE to the initial deprivation.
—————————————————————————————The cycle continues as the behavior of overeating causes the physical and mental deprivation to start again. The answer to breaking the cycle is PERMISSION. Telling yourself you can eat as many carbs as your body needs, for example, will prevent the physical and mental derivation from even existing. Permission will allow your body to trust that it will get ENOUGH.

Let’s strive to shift our mindsets to getting ENOUGH instead of depriving ourselves. It may feel scary at first but I promise it is life changing. It was for me! ❤️
