Drina Nibbe LLC

Drina Nibbe LLC Licensed Family Therapist & Counselor, Supervisor - Infant/Toddler Mental Health & Neurodiversity Raising children to their full potential.

Healthy parents and schools make healthy children. My goal is to empower parents and schools with proven ways to build resilience by enhancing relationships. I integrate research on how human brains develop through social interactions, with what we now know about optimal child development to provide a treatment plan focused on YOUR goals. Raising children to their full potential means understanding:

• How a parent’s own life experiences enhance their parenting style and interactions
• What factors play into making a smarter, happier and more resilient child
• How to heal with lasting results by building momentum in quick solutions, and endurance in root causes

I offer individual, couple, child and family therapy with some extended hours. Online and in-person (by request only).

In honor of Mental Health Month, from NICHQ:
STIGMA IS PREVENTABLE
We all likely know someone who has experienced mental illness. Yet there are still many harmful attitudes that fuel stigma and make it harder to reach out for help. Take the following quiz and test your knowledge: https://www.cdc.gov/mentalhealth/quiz/index.htm

Here is a statement from OVER 60 NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS REPRESENTING MENTAL HEALTH on the public health crisis of gun violence, and perpetuation of the false narrative encouraging stigmatization of people living with mental health conditions. Also attached is a paid advertisement from Social Workers, Psychologists and School Psychologists with an answer: "The answer is to pass legislation now to promote gun safety and increase rigorous research on gun violence."

I'm tired of hearing solutions that don't dig into the problem (ie-blocking research efforts into gun violence and coherent collection of data in an open source environment- yes, I'm a former data geek), and aren't addressing BOTH short term and long term effects.

Another school shooting. As a I continue to be maddened by the complex issue of shootings. Considering how much of our Colorado communities have suffered this violence again and again, it helps to support your child(ren) to reprocess the events they have been witness to either directly, or through media. Here are some resources:

*FIRST, manage your own very real parent stress before talking to your kids. https://www.apa.org/topics/gun-violence-crime/mass-shooting

*National Parent Helpline at 1-855-4A PARENT (1-855-427-2736) to get emotional support from a trained Advocate. They are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m (PST).

*SAMHSA has a Disaster Distress Helpline – call or text 1-800-985-5990 (for Spanish, press “2”) to be connected to a trained counselor 24/7/365.

*Open ended questions and tips to promote productive conversations: https://www.verywellfamily.com/how-to-talk-to-your-child-about-gun-violence-school-shootings-5205913

*Guidance based on age: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/articles/how-to-talk-to-kids-about-school-shootings

You may be struggling to understand how a shooting rampage could take place in a community, even a workplace or military base, and why such a terrible thing would happen.
