The Samuel Merritt University (SMU) Health Impact Awards are the University's most prestigious awards, honoring the outstanding and significant accomplishments of alumni and friends in health sciences and healthcare.

The Innovative Leadership Award recognizes alums and friends of the University who contribute to health sciences or medicine through significant innovation and/or entrepreneurial endeavors.

Unfortunately, the SMU April 2020 trip has been cancelled due to health and travel concerns due to COVID-19.

However, to continue to support the Batata community's health in our absence, we are partnering with Hands For Americas to provide Care Packages to the community!

We are looking to raise $5000 to support this project. Learn more and donate online!

Another successful clinic in Batata complete!

889 patients seen over 3 days by 12 volunteers.

Thank you to Hands For Americas for your logistical support, and to our Peace Corp Volunteers for their assistance with translation and understanding the local culture. And thanks most of all to our donors for making this possible!

Bags packed. Supplies ready. Tonight we start our 12th trip in 7 years providing much needed medical clinics in Batata, Panama. Wish our 12 volunteers representing nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant programs at Samuel Merritt University safe travels! Last minute packing, label printing, logistics underway! We just had someone drop of some off eyeglasses for us to rehome. They belonged to her mother who passed away recently and she is glad we will find someone who can use them to see, work, care for their family.
