Dreams...

I remember years ago working at ProBusiness, in Pleasanton, doing data entry for payroll processing. When tax time came around, the company would bring in a corporate massage team & we’d sign up for a break-time chair or table massage. I signed up as much as the limit would allow. What a treat! And everyone came back relaxed; happy even. As much as I enjoy data entry (seriously!), I decided I needed a career change. We had applied to be foster parents, but the call never came. So I left my full time job & started part time work so I could go to massage school in the evenings. I completed my initial 150 hours(CA code at the time), and was hired at Valeria Spa in Blackhawk Plaza where I worked to save up for the next 350 hours.

Shortly after I started that job, the call came: were we still interested in fostering? YES!! We were! Massage school got put on hold and we received an entirely different education. Our family had 22 girls (unaccompanied minors) in our home during a 2 year period, most from China, 2 from Guatemala, and one from San Francisco. Wow, what a cultural difference. I’ll tell you all about it some day..

Only two years later, 9/11 forced ICE to change their rules and placement procedures, and we ā€˜retired’ from foster care. I thought of going back to finish massage school, but was told I’d have to start from the very beginning: 500 hours. At age 50-something. (PLUS hot flashes!)... But how do I encourage my teen to follow her dreams if I won’t follow MINE? So, I did. And I LOVE my career, I LOVE my clients, and I’ve met the most awesome people~YOU guys! I really enjoy going to work each day~I am blessed

Follow your dreams, my friends. You never know where they will lead you. Thanks for listening~
