Let me Introduce Myself

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. In 1999, I attended Cal State University Hayward and obtained a Masters of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Cross Cultural Training in 2001. I completed my mental health training through various placements, such as Residential Group Home for adolescents that were involved in the judicial system. I later moved onto Telecare Villa Fairmont Mental Health Rehabilitation Center in San Leandro, working with dual-diagnosis adults. I continued on to Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center, in which I worked in the field of infant mental health, teen parenting therapeutic case management, individual counseling, family counseling, couples counseling, crisis counseling, and school-based counseling. I have facilitated various psycho-educational theme groups, such as, self-esteem, parenting, self-awareness, grief and depression, healthy relationships and social skills. I have conducted various workshops that dealt with the issues of grief and bereavement, teaching the faith community how to start a grief ministry, and various self-esteem topics. Through my work I bring compassion, a sense of humor, sensitivity and discretion, honesty and respect.

Mental health is not taboo, especially in the tribe of maleness.

Such a discussion started in therapy.

Such a discussion started in therapy.

While catchy songs from "Encanto" are topping the charts, Disney's latest animated film is drawing praise for another reason: the way the movie portrays trauma and healing.

Response from an interview I did for some students studying to be a therapist:

Thanks for being interviewed and taking the time out to share your wisdom! I wanted to share some feedback with you from the students:

I like how she mentions that she was able to also use humor or observe from a different lens by understanding but not letting those situations go through her boundaries. Also how she mentions how important it is to take care of herself by surrounding herself with good people.
Wow! Out of the three videos I watched, this one struck the biggest cord with me. It was as if Carmel Ross answered each and every question or concerns I may have come up with, especially around setting boundaries and taking care of yourself as a therapist. I believe addressing one's own personal issues can be an effective tool and create a trusting relationship between yourself and the client. I can see the takeaway clearly now regarding countertransference, such as bias, or being a multicultural therapist. I feel more confident now after watching this video and my input in the psychotherapist/counseling role. I had begun to question myself quite a bit, asking myself will I be able to help someone. Do I have the mental capacity to help someone heal with my own personal ideals that I've adopted and how I view the world. This was an awesome way to learn about this field. I now see that therapist are not coming from a sterile place but are human beings with problems and needs just like the rest of the population. I am so much more excited about the field of psychology!
Carmel Ross mentioned the balance between work and her social life. You have to find the best way to take care of YOURSELF or else you’ll burn out. I'm currently experiencing that right now with my midterms this week. However, I got to treat myself before I felt a burnout coming.

In 2020 I prayed you became so uncomfortable in your comfort zone that you want what is on the other side in 2021.. As far as the world goes nothing much has changed but I prayed that you did. I pray that how you approach life, health, wealth, family and love has changed. I prayed you have a better understanding of preferences vs priorities. I pray that the love of humanity is far better than the love of money and self. People kept telling me I can't wait for 2021 to show up well its here so let's show up for it. Be better, not bitter in 2021. Be bolder, be braver, and be beyond what is possible. Step out of your comfort zone and be the best version of yourself because that is who God created you to be. Blessed 2021
