February is Black History Month ❤️🖤💛
In speech therapy, representation isn’t a theme — it’s a practice.
Every day in my therapy room, my students see themselves in the books we read like Hair Love and Jabari Jumps. They see themselves in our Little People toys — with different skin tones, different abilities, wheelchairs, vitiligo, and beautiful differences. They see themselves in our puppets, in our play, and in the materials I create.
Because communication is deeply connected to identity.
When children see characters, toys, and visuals that reflect their culture, their skin, their abilities, and their lived experiences, it tells them something powerful:
✨ You belong here.
✨ Your voice matters.
✨ Your story deserves to be heard.
Black History Month is a time to celebrate, uplift, and intentionally honor the contributions, culture, and brilliance of the Black community — but in my therapy room, diversity isn’t seasonal. It’s built into everything we do.
Representation matters. In books. In toys. In visuals. In therapy.
And most importantly — in voices. ❤️
