Don’t wait!

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children have their first orthodontic check-up no later than age 7.

Why so early?

At this age, the first molars have erupted, and the orthodontist can evaluate the bite, jaw relationship, and check for any developing issues like crowding, deep bites, or open bites. Early detection and timely treatment can guide jaw growth, correct harmful oral habits, and simplify future orthodontic treatment.

Whether you’re looking for an evaluation for your child or seeking a straighter smile for yourself, we’re here to help!

We are accepting new patients with:

• Medicaid Insurance *(patients under 20yrs)

• Non-Medicaid Insurance

• Fully out-of-pocket with payment plans for both children and adults

Got blue rubber bands between your teeth? You’re on your way to a perfect smile! These small elastics are busy creating just enough space to place your braces or other appliances.

Here’s what you need to know about your new separators:

• A little tenderness is normal. Your teeth might feel a bit sore for a day or two. This is a good sign- it means the bands are working!

• Stick to soft foods. For the first few days, a braces-friendly diet is extra important. Think smoothies, soup, yogurt, and mashed potatoes.

• Don’t floss where they are. Avoid flossing between the teeth with the bands to make sure they stay in place until your next appointment.

Do not hesitate to call office if you have any questions:

✨ Keeping your braces clean is key to a healthy smile! ✨
Brushing and flossing with braces takes a little extra effort — but it’s worth it. 🪥🦷
✅ Brush after every meal
✅ Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft or electric toothbrush
✅ Floss daily (don’t skip!)
✅ Try hygiene helpers like interproximal brushes and floss threaders
✅ Visit your dentist every 3–6 months
👉 Poor oral hygiene can lead to white spots, gum disease, or even tooth loss. Let’s avoid that with good daily habits!
Have questions? Our team at Maryland Orthodontic Specialists is here to help you every step of the way. 💙

🦷 Braces 101: Braces-Friendly Foods! 🍽️
Got braces? Your teeth are moving, your smile is transforming - but your diet might need a little makeover too. Here’s a quick guide on what’s safe to eat (and what to skip!) to keep your braces AND your teeth happy. 😁

✅ Braces-Safe Foods:
• Mashed potatoes
• Pasta & soft rice
• Yogurt & smoothies
• Soft fruits (bananas, berries)
• Eggs & soft-cooked veggies
• Soft cheeses
• Soups & stews

❌ Foods to Avoid:
• Hard candies or gum
• Popcorn 🍿
• Nuts
• Sticky candy (like taffy or caramel)
• Crunchy chips
• Hard raw veggies (unless cut small & softened)
• Ice (yes, even chewing on it!)

🍓 Pro tip: Stick with soft, nutritious foods - and always cut things into bite-sized pieces to avoid damaging brackets or wires.
