Friday’s Smile Update: Is your child a “Mouth Breather”? 🧐🦷

It sounds like a simple habit, but for National Children’s Dental Health Month, we want to share a fact that surprises most parents: The way your child breathes can actually change their face shape!

We’ve been back on our regular schedule all week in Ellicott City and Catonsville, and Dr. Clark often looks for more than just straight teeth—we look at the “Airway.”

Why it matters:
When a child breathes through their mouth consistently (often due to allergies or large tonsils), the tongue sits low instead of resting on the roof of the mouth. Without that tongue support, the upper jaw can become narrow, leading to:

❌ Crowded teeth

❌ A “long” facial profile

❌ Sleep fatigue and snoring

The Good News: Identifying this early (at that recommended Age 7 visit) allows us to use simple orthodontic tools to widen the jaw and help improve their breathing and their smile at the same time! 🚀
