Wellness through Tai Qi and Qigong
The Maryland Health and Wellness Center began in nursing homes for groups of seniors to community settings, and one-on-one therapeutic sessions with Alzheimer’s patients and war veterans suffering from severe symptoms of PTSD.
MHAW is currently offering Tai Qi specifically for Arthritis and Qigong for Stress Relief and PTSD via Donations. It is important to note that there are many forms of Tai Qi and Qigong that address specific chronic diseases and symptoms of underlining disease states. Arthritis and stress relief appear to be the two therapies consumers requested the most. The Maryland Health and Wellness Center is certified and well versed in the many forms of alternative therapies and follows best practices for specific ailments, diseases, and physical health.
Offering alternative therapies that have been shown to improve well-being (decreased anxiety, depression, and confusion) and improve mobility and agility, will positively impact the quality of life in Baltimore. Participants in the program would be more likely to remain independent, see a reduction in the utility of urgent care and discover they have an increased desire to engage in their communities than those who do not participate. The core of the Maryland Health and Wellness Center programs consists of Tai Chi and Qigong, both having meditative elements to focus and relax the mind. There is increasing evidence through research that suggests movement, meditation and community have a positive impact towards improving the quality of life for a myriad of chronic illnesses affecting veterans, seniors and those with physical and cognitive impairments.
