When Lana first heard about the ultrasound offered on a Care Net Mobile Medical Clinic, she was simply hoping to learn the gender of her baby. What she didn’t expect was the wave of hope and support that would follow.
Life had just shifted dramatically. Lana had recently lost the relationship with the father of her children due to circumstances outside her control. Devastated but determined, she resolved to care for her growing family—two children at home and one on the way.
A Baby Girl—and a New Beginning
When she arrived at the Mobile Medical Clinic, she immediately felt at ease. The space was beautiful, still smelling fresh and new. The warmth of the director and the care of the radiology doctor and nurse left a lasting impression. During her appointment, they saw an active baby with a strong heartbeat on the ultrasound. And while gender reveals aren’t a part of the medical scope, a little girl was possibly spotted!

Five months later, that “maybe” became a miracle.

During pregnancy, the mother and child exchange small quantities of cells. The ongoing cellular presence of this child in the mother’s body later in life is called microchimerism. Microchimerism means every mother has a biological connection with every child created in her womb at a cellular level until she dies. During pregnancy, nutrients from the mother cross through the placenta and into the baby, and likewise, fetal cells cross back into the mother settling and embedding in various areas of mom, such as heart, kidneys, brain, etc. This is referred to as microchimerism.

This cellular miracle was discovered when researchers found male DNA in a woman who had never given birth. In questioning this woman after the Y chromosomes were discovered in her brain, they learned she had aborted a child. Researchers theorized that her aborted child must have been a boy and that some of his DNA remained in her body. Cells of unborn children remain in the bodies of their mothers – whether they are aborted or brought to birth. Science even suggests that cells from earlier born siblings and the child’s maternal grandmother may live on inside the body of a child as well! What an incredible miracle and phenomenon!
