This has long been my favorite quote. Clients don’t come to therapy after the storm has passed, they come during the storms - whether the storm is brief and mild, or long and intense and the troubles keep raining down. We don’t wait for the storms to pass in order to be happy! It is my joy as a therapist to help people to learn to “ dance in the rain”, to be happy despite whatever storms besiege their lives. If you see someone that is happy, it does not mean that they don’t have huge problems, or are hiding something. It is most often that they have learned healthy coping skills and BOTH are true - big problems AND still happy. Contact me or another therapist if you need this in your life!

Why is it that people can have almost identical struggles, but some are happy anyway and others are gloomy? We cannot underestimate that it is our own thought patterns that make it so. I am always inspired by quotes from Victor Frankyl and Anne Frank and their holocaust experiences, and how they teach us that attitude is everything even in the worst of circumstances. Marcus Aurelius is awesome as well. If you need help with this, therapy is a great option!
