Free webinar from Child Mind Institute:

How to Be on Social Media Without Feeling Sad

According to the CDC, 3 in 5 U.S. teen girls report feeling persistently sad or hopeless. Evidence shows social media may have a lot to do with it.

But instead of pretending parents can stop young people from using it, join us on December 5 at 5:45pm ET to learn practical tips on how to stay safe and avoid sadness while using social media.

Let’s provide teens with ways to cope, not just time restrictions and rules. In this session, mental health experts and youth digital media advocates will share practical tips, coping strategies, and confidence-building tools.

This roundtable discussion will be followed by a live, anonymous Q&A for young people and parents.

Join Dr. Harold Koplewicz, Dr. Matthew Biel, Kris Perry, MSW, Emma Lembke and Sophia Choukas-Bradley, PhD to gain practical insights and tools that you can use right away to support your child.

In Memoriam: Dr. Linda T. Lombardo

Dr. Linda T. Lombardo, former Executive Director of Lighthouse, passed away on August 7. Linda began her tenure at Lighthouse in 1989, as a graduate student intern, and very quickly took on the responsibilities of the directorate, where she remained until her retirement in 2014. Linda was a gifted and skillful family counselor and clinical supervisor, and a staunch advocate for children. Countless children and families, as well as counselors-in-training, benefitted from her wisdom. Linda left a legacy at Lighthouse of respecting children, embracing new techniques and technology, and going above and beyond in service to clients. Under Linda’s leadership, Lighthouse became the highly regarded community resource it is today. Linda established traditions of working collaboratively with schools and other service providers, and ensuring that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Linda developed our Sociabilities program for neurodivergent youth, which became one of the most highly respected of such programs in the region. Linda’s contributions to the mental health and well-being of southwestern Baltimore County’s children and families are immeasurable, and the Lighthouse community mourns her passing.
