We believe in self-care within the context of community care. Move differently, think differently! If you’re interested in focused martial arts training in a welcoming community of like minded students, Rivertide Aikido is for you! You will learn techniques that employ circular movements, timing and blending to neutralize attacks with throws or joint locks. Your training in Aikido will develop men

tal focus, core strength, balance and flexibility. Our emphasis on a cooperative training model has proven to keep beginners safe and everyone having fun!

“Steadiness & Ease” Yoga classes focus on playful exploration of movement and breath. Students are invited to practice radical listening to their own bodies, adapting the practice as desired, and resting when called to do so. Physical adjustments are offered only with active express consent. All bodies are welcome. All genders are welcome. Iaido is the traditional art of drawing the Japanese sword from it’s scabbard, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then resheathing the sword. Training is based on Muso Shinden Ryu. Permission to participate is given by Sensei on an individual basis.

Chloe is back at Rivertide - beginning tonight at 6:30pm and every Monday! Slow & Steady Yoga is an unhurried & grounding yoga practice. During this mellow & exploratory class, staying close to the Earth, we move with a slow fluidity through yoga poses & pranayama to wind-down into the evening & find repose. All are welcome - come exactly as you are.

Drop-ins for this class are welcome! Or come at 5:30 for a workout and then cool down with yoga - the two classes paired only $30. Check out our calendar for our full schedule of 5 yoga class options each week, plus fitness, martial arts and more.

"How can you be useless to capitalism today?" - Tricia Hersey,

Yes, there is irony and deep struggle in posting this on fb, and in Rivertide's very existence as a small business focused on wellness. Maybe i will dig into that irony in another post, and how it ties to our own family's struggles to access health and wellness resources. For now i'll just note that we welcome inquiries about barter and sliding scale for many of the classes and services we offer. We believe with every fiber that access to resources supporting health and wellness is a human right. That rest and joy and embodiment and community and safety and agency are human rights.

Jamila Bradley, of The Broken Pedestal Society calls for disobedience to capitalism as a daily practice. Without my own daily disobedience practices, i don't know that i could face each day of our current dystopia. So here are some of mine. Nibble on the jowls of . Give her space to become a black-goo-covered swamp-monster with cattail fronds trailing from her harness. Forage my food directly from the earth, ie: eat weeds. Barter. Receive, astounded, the grace of trees with each inhale. Converse with spring ephemerals. Keep wearing my scruffy filthy insulated winter boots because they feel soft and cushy on the insteps of my feet. Drink silver maple sap directly from the tree (okay, at this point it is from my freezer.) Wonder, noncommittally (as i've done for the past five years) whether the stinging nettles that i love to eat (cooked) might also be used as a therapeutic topical treatment (fresh) for my PTS.

Jamila Bradley asserts, "Some indulgence simply keeps us functional inside the very arrangements that are impoverishing us… That is why grief matters. That is why rest matters. That is why unmonetized pleasure, unspectacular play, and forms of togetherness that cannot be easily packaged or sold back to us matter… A daily disobedience practice matters for this reason. "

Join us for a Restorative Spring Sound Bath with Maureen - Sunday May 3 at 4pm.

An invitation toward deep relaxation, rest and resilience. Settle in with gentle movement and 'nesting' guided by Ari, then melt into an hour long meditative sound journey guided by Maureen.

Bring whatever you need to get super cozy, including your favorite socks, blankets, and/or pillows. Additional ‘nesting’ supplies are available at Rivertide.

Sound baths are generally safe, but individuals with epilepsy (especially sound-induced), severe mental health conditions, pacemakers, or those in their first trimester of pregnancy should consult a doctor to assess any possible contraindications.

Tickets are $30 with preregistration or $40 at the door. If this is a financial hardship for you, please reach out, as we have a limited number of half-price and free tickets on reserve, reflecting our belief that rest and wellness are human rights. Link in bio or use venmo to preregister.

New session starts next week! This is still my favorite pic of kids' aikido class, even though some of these kids are verging on adulthood now... And sword practice remains a favorite, even when the kids have to abide by onerous safety rules in order to do it!😆 (Actually there is only one rule in kids' weapons classes - any kid who has been in my class can tell you what it is. 😉)

In our upcoming 6-week session, we will also be introducing Jo (staff) practice, inspired by a student who helped to make Jo-s for the entire class! And as always, we include rolling and falling practice, Japanese terminology, aikido techniques and lots of games... all while practicing self-regulation, cooperation, mindfulness and self-agency.

Learn more via link in bio or reach out to Ari with questions!

An offering of deep relaxation, stress relief and more than a sprinkling of magic. Sink into gentle movement and 'nesting' guided by Certifying Yoga Therapist Ari, then melt into an hour long sound journey by Maureen. Link in bio to preregister.

Quartz crystal singing bowls create, slow, and resonant sound waves that calm the nervous system, lower brain waves and support a deep meditative state, restoring balance to the your body’s chakra energy centers.

Lying down in a comfortable position is suggested but chairs will be available for anyone not comfortable on the floor.

We will end with an optional space to have tea and connect, or to linger quietly to integrate the experience.

Sessions are for relaxation, not medical treatment, and require participants to take personal responsibility for their health. Bring whatever you need to get super cozy, including your favorite cozy socks, blankets, and/or pillows. Additional ‘nesting’ supplies are available at Rivertide.

Sound baths are generally safe, but individuals with specific health conditions should consult a doctor first, as the intense vibrations and sound frequencies may pose risks.
